In reply to Post #15 If using a tablet & Deeper range extender. . .get one of these
V Ledge Bracket
Fits either a storm pole or tripod - Deeper range extender screws directly into back of the height adjustment wheel so sits at height directly behind tablet . . .product is quality and will last a lifetime

In reply to Post #12 I had the tripod go over, it was lighter in weight and more of it to catch the wind.
I use an old long Nash storm pole now, I stick 6-12" into the ground, or sometimes simply slide it down into the scaffold tube that some swims have to hold the front up (bit risky if you drop your phone/tablet though...but I like to make the fishing experience slightly more 'edgy')
I bought a little plastic table that attaches to a pole with a clamp. I have this half way down the storm pole (range extender on top obviously - roughly 1.8m off the ground) and then I swallowed my pride and got an Android tablet.
This way I can have half the screen Deeper and the other half ND Baitboat app.
Sometimes I use both devices at once. Tablet for Deeper only and the phone up high on the Deeper Extender mount for ND Boat app.
I did buy the GPS/SIM card version of my Samsung tablet and I usually bung £5 on that PAYG SIM card before I go anywhere for a weeks fishing...but you can always tether the tablet to your phone for internet to get the maps downloaded.
Ideally, get the maps downloaded at home on Wi-Fi first, much faster (and potentially cheaper)

In reply to Post #12 😂
It's all about throwing ideas about, getting the old grey matter working. I've forgotten my tripod more than once, used storm poles in the ground no problem, even zip tied them or selfie stick to my chair, me sat in chair tablet on a couple of buckets. I started sitting down mapping with my RT4 Chirp 10+ years ago, can be doing without standing up for ages 🤣 (another plus for the Deeper Quest auto mapping which is becoming so tempting).
On recently buying the Deeper Range Extender I contacted them re the 1.5m height. They said it's a preferable minimum height for distance, having it higher will aid in line of site, it won't increase distance, but might aid in preventing drop outs, depending on boat. From that perspective I'll keep it a bit higher.
I've not done mapping or way points with my Deeper, I did with my old RT4 which had all the 'gubbins'. In fact until recently I was using the old Deeper app, pre mapping. Unfortunately it tried to update and my tablet isn't supported anymore😢, advice on a new tablet welcomed, doesn't have to be fancy, will only be used a few times a year fishing, pref android👍
I seem to have a memory of maps being shared using Deeper which I'm not keen on for obvious reasons. Can you keep them private? I didn't look any further.
Edit, forgot to say, my pref at the mo is still tripod with selfie stick to extend Deeper RE height, tablet at about 5' which for me is comfortable being 6'

Definitely a tripod
I have my raymarine setup on it,it’s at 👁️ level so far far easier

In reply to Post #10 Always preferred a tripod you can peg it down and when you have your phone / tablet (note tablet needs to have cellular so you get GPS data for mapping , saving waypoints etc - it’s for location data) I’ve seen a few single sticks go over and with the weight it builds up quite a bit of inertia. Three legs more stable than one 😃

I got about 60-80 yards with my Deeper without range extender, but that's only in a straight line. With my RT4 the minute you turned at that range you lost signal.
I had a range extender made by Fish Eye before Deeper started making their own, it easily went over 100m, but I didn't use it further than that. It's reputed to go way over 200m, I might try it 1 day 🙄
You don't need a tripod to mount the Deeper Extender, you can mount it via a storm pole or extending selfie stick with some imagination, I've use/used both.
I prefer to use a tablet with my Deeper.

In reply to Post #4 Range extenders with Deepers are an essential purchase IMO; whatever range you are fishing at. Attachment position of the Deeper itself to your boat also makes a difference in terms of information clarity, positioning at the front keeps it away from prop turbulence and of course your line etc . . choose your Deeper arm wisely.
Whatever you do, you will be p*ssed when your spot suddenly freezes at 80yards with a mild cross wind - an extender alleviates this. I've had aftermarket extenders with previous Deepers that were ok, albeit bulky and technical to set up - the branded Deeper extender is def the best, its compact and once connected, pretty much plug and play and has a decent battery life / can be recharged quickly . . .

I got the deeper one as plug n play yes alternatives from 3rd parties but why bother you will need a tripod that’s at least 1.5mtrs to maximise the range

Hi Guys. We're fishing jurassica 2,I think its about 30 acres,so it sounds like I'll probably have to invest in a range extender. Its my first time in France and only invested in a boat and sonar as I believe its weedy and was advised to get one for finding gaps in the weed, more than anything else.Any advice on which range extender to get and where from?

I agree with @JasonM
An extender is a must.
Years ago I got the Deeper Pro+ and I was lucky if I could use it 15yards out when I was trying to depth map a section of river.
Then the extender came out and I had nothing else to waste my money on that week so I bought it.
My old Deeper Pro+ was now useful and I used it in France on the back of my ND2 boat out to 200yard.
I've since got the Chirp 3 (April 2025 I think it was) as I wanted the better tech that it offers. I am sure that the Chirp 3 offers better range than the ancient Deeper Pro+ - but my belief still stands that you NEED the range extender to ensure that your Deeper has no issues.
Getting out to France for a special trip...and then not being able to fish as effectively as you want to can be soul destroying.

How big is the lake you are fishing ?
If a typical lake pressured French lake where the carp could literally be anywhere and perhaps might be power lines ?waste of time taking a deeper without an extender
Range extenders were designed for fishing on the continent
