bank stick with ball joint smartphone adapter and a cheap amazon or Ali LED construction light (cheap but very bright, also packs away nicely compared to the Rhino cubes) also set on a bank stick slightly to the side of the camera pointing towards the action.
Good enough results even when pitch black.
I then shoot a video holding the fish up and take out the single frames that are best as photos.
Works good enough. Not professional quality but good results.
Much needed as I only do overnighters and as usual fish only bite at night.

If you already have a Ridgemonkey light, these also make a great light for night shots. They come with a magnetic bankstick holder thingy.

A tripod, an iphone, a phone holder and a synco = great pics (and a fox halo in the back pocket for the night)

I use a Nikon d3300 on a tripod with an intervalometer. Then at night I use a rhino beam light on a bankstick just at the side of the camera to help the camera focus. The camera is set to auto with flash for night time and auto without flash for during the day.

In reply to Post #10 You don't need an app on an iPhone. Just use voice control,, it works better.

In reply to Post #1 Two small cube rhino lights (or similar cheaper variants) on separate banksticks but at camera height and distance positioned either side and at 45 degrees to the mat - mobile phone / camera on tripod or bankstick (Jag self take kit is good for this) centred from mat and at suitable distance - additional rhino light above phone / camera optional . . .this set up ensures minimal shadowing and an even level of light over you / the subject fish . . . .remember to turn off / get rid of your headtorch before the camera starts snapping . . .use either the voice activated 'shoot' function on your phone or intervalometer on your camera . . .bulb releases / annoying key fob remotes all unnecessary these days

I still use the old faithful air bulb release
I have 3 lights 1 Rhino and 2 x copies from AliExpress all 3 are perfect when attached to a bank stick as you can adjust the brightness 👍

In reply to Post #1 Spare bank stick, bank stick camera adaptor, Rhino self take kit which includes Rhino beam, phone holder and remote release button which you wear on your finger like a ring. It really is that simple and works brilliantly!

I have a cheap tripod to hold my phone and then a ridge monkey multi light screwed at the top which comes with a fantastic light diffuser cap for night takes. On my phone I have the sensory voice selfie app and I simply lift up the fish and say 'take my picture' and away it goes. Absolutely brilliant and I get some great night time pictures.

Thanks for responding.
My phone is fitted to a tripod and the light was from my head torch and Nash blow up bivvy light thing. They were on the end of the mat, so I will move them back next time.
But, I normally do videos on my phone so can't use the flash.
I've seen JAG sell the nitecore, but it's pricey, is it worth the money or is there a decent alternative I can look at? I can get a second tripod from Amazon for not much and can just leave it in the overnight bag.
I've not fished a night since last may and I couldn't remember when I last caught in the dark, so starting from scratch and don't mind spending if that's the way.
Edit - is the ngt charger/light any good for 18 quid it's a whole lot less than the nitecore and in reality won't get used loads anyway 😂😂
