Should be ok . . .for general trotting on a pin I use white Fireline in 0.18 which is the equivalent dia of 4lb mono but with twice the breaking stain to accommodate any monsters that may turn up . . .peels off nicely, floats without sprays / grease etc, really easy to see and mend - hasn't damaged my Acolyte Plus yet!

it has 2/3 leg SICs, bought way back when you got a top quality rod for Β£185
later/final versions had single leg SICs, 'improved action' , just cheap.

Yes sorry a little bit off topic.
Yes agreed for silvers and chub.
Those old drennan rods had hardened chrome guides which should be fine for braid though always a risk so with that class of rod stick with reflow.

I'm happy with it as is, only for silvers and whatever else happens along.
Confident with the setup and Reflow, don't want anything that might upset a 30 year old match rod, one of those forever rods.π

Braid - just donβt forget to put some backing on the braid will slip on the drum.

Slap some braid on your pin . . .ideal for both trotting and rolling meat etc . . .strikes are a mere flick of the wrist, then hang on!

I have cheap modern pin that I bought 15 or so years ago, just use it for trotting the near line paired with a 13ft Drennan IM8 Super Waggler.
Haven't got as far as back spinning on the cast, three rings and an underarm chuck.
Could probably get away with thicker mono l but combined with 4lb-12oz Preston Reflow Power with 2-12oz bottom the combo has handled everytthing I've hooked, 8-9lb snotties hanging in the flow, 7lb+ chub and a few river carp into mid-doubles

Im just pulling a loop of line, no reel spinning as yet. Keep it short and simple.

There's a south African chap who fishes my local commercial with a float rod and pin, his wallis casting is something to behold as is his fishing style in general. Big sliding peacock into 15 ft. He easily casts 20 yards maybe a bit more and wind doesn't seem too much trouble He's just as competent over both shoulders. I enjoy just watching him.

love my centrepins especially on the river for Barbel as well as Carp and Tench float fishing in the margins.
