In reply to Post #6 What makes the slow oscillation a pain?

In reply to Post #3 agreed, i rushed out and bought xtds, the ultra slow oscillation is a pain in the ass, line guard wouldnt stay in the grooves. the previous model, the spool clickers stopped working within 3 sessions, had to be "upgraded" one ended up like an ss3000 in less than a year....
i am overall happy with power aeros though and my qdx which are now ancient and never been serviced!
i'd expect that something is in the pipeline by now they are 5 year old...

In reply to Post #3 There is an obsession with having the newest and most shiny (or blackest) reels on the market, and most carp anglers are suckers for it...
Daiwa and Shimano make slight design tweaks but little improves, and often they become lighter and more fragile.
My old Ultegra XT have been superceded dozens of times but maybe only improved on a few times, and any future improvement doesn't compromise the quality of the older reel.
Tarts gotta tart 🙄

In reply to Post #1 Shimano release a new tech mgs every few years,it has took Daiwa six years to release a new Basia.Having owned both of these reels i wouldnt have either again if im honest, the xtd felt the better reel at the start,I loved it but then had issues with line guard popping out, anti reverse issues too.I soon got rid of them

In reply to Post #1 The mgs have steadily got worse with each new release so a new version is not always a good thing.

In reply to Post #1 hmm, the manufacturers are always going to update reels and ranges whether thats actual improvement, production efficiiency/cost.
tbh the longer a particular model (high end at that) stays in production unchanged -the better it is likely to be.
If Daiwa improved or released a new version the Basia every 12-18 months then something was not right to start with.
I remember when I bought my baby-blue XTBs 15 odd years ago, barely had them a month before the next versions of came out. Obviously not happy.

I’ve recently ordered a set of the Aero Technium MgS XTD to replace my 20 Tournament Basias. Don’t want to turn this into a debate on the two reels…
Given that Daiwa just released a replacement Tournament Basia the thought crossed my mind that Shimano could do the same with the Aero Technium seeing as this model is now a few years old, and that would definitely leave me with a little bit of buyer’s remorse!
Does anybody have a view on this, heard rumours from reputable dealers etc?
