Berkley Big Game is totally agree

Sonik Ultrasonic Snood is a cheap sal****er leader material available in different diameters. There is also the sal****er mono from Sonik in clear.
No experience on these sorry but being sal****er lines the assumption is they cannot be bad for leaders. Should also be easily available contrary to the Daiwa line.
Other than that I am just using 0,38 oder more so the 0,45mm (25lbs) Berkley Big Game in green or clear. Very cheap and it has never let me down either as mainline or as leader for decades.

In reply to Post #34 If you're happy, your happy
I'd be trying a different knot, but I like wasting yards of material for no good reason Last night I was looking up how to tie a grinner for a repeatable a fixed length hooklink, also if there are any longer loop typers then the Stonfo one I use...keeps the old grey matter alive I guess
Bothers me when you see matchmans fixed length hooklink boxes...all perfect in a row, exactly the same size...I need rig tying ststion...but I won't forgo my tag ends...oh no

In reply to Post #33 So i tied the amnesia to a chod hook using a knotless knot and a figure of eight at the other end , best i could get was 15 lb , some went at hook some went at figure of eight end , not that i'dcexert 15lbs pressure with a rod so im fairly happy with that

What do you want from a mono hooklength?
Many years ago i dabbled with trilene XL, and XT, but ended up using 12lb big game green.
With the advent of Ronnie rigs and supple braid combi rigs, lads using stiffer hooklength material like amnesia, IQ or even snag leader material there are so many options.
Im not sure I'd ever need to tie a hook directly onto mono again.
I suppose a mono D rig is the most straightforward one, anti tangle and some subtle movement at the bait end.
I have used 25 and 30lb amnesia, and added a doubled over supple braid combi so I can get the anti tangle properties for a big chuck, subtle presentation, and convenience of easy changing hooks when needed.
The big bonus of an amnesia type hooklength with a Ronnie or combi multi is you dont need lots of rigs tied as the component parts are reusable and you just need to change the hook.
It can be pulled straight and reused if kinked, unlike mono.

In reply to Post #26 Difficult to get hold of trilene xt , do you know of any stockists ??

For strength it would have to be Trilene XT.
For suppleness I'd say Maxima Chameleon..breaking strain is up to you.

In reply to Post #1 Almost every rig I've used in the last 18 years has been tied with mono.
I've used Amnesia, Catana, Technium, Bulletproof, and a few others and haven't noticed any difference in catch rates. Basically, if I'm happy to use it on my reels I'm happy to use it for my hooklength.
Amnesia spools do sit nicely in my tackle box and are refilled with mainline once empty.
