In reply to Post #6 I agree, get the lightest bedchair in the size you want. Get a sim to fit, the deeper the better. With a sleeping bag appropriate for the time of year. Best nighrs sleep you will get for the money spent.

Thanks all. Was going down the road of a sim but wanted to know if anyone had found a reasonably priced wider version. I assume i don't need the full 90cm width so am after any experience/advice.

Agree with two posts below, MF is pointless on bedchairs, simply not thick enough and just adds additional weight.
A SIM will always make a bedchair more comfortable, go down that route.

In reply to Post #1 Ive been looking into this a lot lately as I have a new bed. Wider sims seem few on the ground and the 1 I've found at 77cm ain't cheap. You dont want something that goes over the bars otherwise the sag will exaggerate the over bar height, better within the frame.

Just get a sim.
My sim is only 3/4 length and 50cm wide but it almost fills the centre width of my bedchair and supports from shoulders to below hips, thats where all the weight is.
If its too wide your body weight will push all the air to the side and it will just bottom out.
If its too long the same happens...

Just some input from me
IMHO memory foam is utter crap unless it it thick, ideally 4" thick, but any is better than nothing.
All manufacturers seem to have jumped on the memory foam band wagon
Memory foam is perfect for a topper but again, it relies on a decent mattress underneath it, when you first lay on memory foam it feels great until it compresses and then there is virtually nothing under you. Put a 25 or 50mm section over a hard floor, this will answer the question, it needs to be thick, thicker the better!
Upholstery foam is far superior (Polyurethane Foam, high density), potentially more expensive and you struggle to get one with a decent cover unless you get one custom made.
3 toppers (£) later I'm currently using two toppers combined in a duvet cover, a memory foam and another type in a bid to get some comfort. Currently pricing up 2" upholstery foam and looking at general foam alternatives

I'm after a topper for an avid ultra x which i only use for my French trips. The longer sessions play my hip up so just wanted a little more padding. I've read the old threads which are a help but they seem really narrow. Are there any slightly wider options about? Thanks.
