In reply to Post #1 No need messing with leaders etc.
For that distance\weight, 0.37 straight through. e.g. Gardner GT-HD 18lb .

In reply to Post #1 Be sure to check your club rules...
Many will say no shock leaders, either braid or mono.
Some will say no braid main line.
Some will say that tapered mono mainline is ok, but the mainline part must be no less than15lb 0.33...
For mainline straight through you can go 18lb 0.40 to chuck bags up to 100yds.
I use 18lb esp syncro, and a 3.75oz lead in a bag.
Obviously your rods will need to be beefy enough!

In reply to Post #2 Thanks for that. What mainline are you using with it?

In reply to Post #1 I use the Korda Longchuck Tapered 12-30lb, do 100m+ no problem, not had any problems with it, but I go over to some fields with a 4oz lead and give it a good few casts before using it for real

want to spool up 2 reels for fishing solid bags at 100 yrds, Braid not allowed.
What diameter line should I use to fill the spools and will I then need a stronger mono shock leader attached to it?
I weighed my bags and they are approx 4.5oz
