Like I said, I’d leave the tag end nearest to the lead a bit longer, so it can buckle and fold as it goes through the rings. Leave it too short and it’ll catch and cause problems on the cast.

mahin knot - best knot for flowing through the rings and super strong. Don't know if they still do but ESP always used to recommend this knot on the leader packaging.

With your tapered leader being a similar diameter to your mainline i would use a back to back grinner.

I would only use more traditional leader knots ie mahin, albright etc if the leader wasn't tapered and you were connecting thinner mainline to a thicker leader

Mahin, or Carrot knot?

I use a variation which starts off more like a figure of 8, no idea what it's actually called though!

Edit.... Found an example Scroll Down https://thinkinganglers.com/going-the-extra-yard/

I’ve only ever used braided leaders and always use a back to back grinner, but not sure how that would work with a mono leader as the tag end of the mono knot would be facing forwards and likely to catch in the rings. If I were to try that, I’d defo have a longish tag end. I’m sure there must be a better knot for mono leaders?

Hi folks, not used leaders before but just ordered some esp tapered leaders 15lbs to 40lbs B/S

I want to tie one of these to my 15lb main line. What knot should I best use please?
