Liquid candy sweetener was indeed a Solar product, used at 1 to 3ml per mix

0.1g of the Powdered Candy in a demijohn of Sloe gin gives an ephemoral sparkling bubblegum aftertaste

Pretty sure I used it at 1ml per 500g, along with the rest of the recipe you mentioned 😋

Pretty much. Seem to remember it also had liquid candy sweetener (if that was a Solar product? If not, I’ve got confused with another old recipe).

As far as I know Solar Ester Cream, Geoff Kemp's Dairy Cream, and Kevin Maddock's Cream RM30 were all the same and sourced from Unbar Rothon. It can still be ordered from them as I remember getting a few flavour samples last year.

I believe his esterblend came from Campbells

from what I've read E-12 originated from a German company, a boiled sweet flavouring.

As Solar baits are no more, I believe? Does anyone know where Lockey used to source his flavours from? I believe his esterblend came from Campbells. Exactly the same as Richworths Tutti. And I believe his ester cream was the same as Geoff kemps old dairy cream. Would that of been from someone like Unbar Rothan Essex based flavour house. What about Sqid & Octopus??? Just curious really.

5ml Squid and Oct and 5ml Ester Cream was a great combo.

To me, it always smelt a bit like that yellow liquid Antibiotic - Amoxicillin that you used to have as a ill kid.

Yes it was, I seem to remember Frank Warwick in his book saying Squid & Octopus it's PH was high around 10 to 14. Also using it at levels of 10 to 20ml per 1 egg high attract singles.

500g Solar Quench Base Mix
6 eggs
7ml Squid & Octopus
2ml Esterblend 12

500g Solar Quench Base Mix
6 eggs
4ml Pear of Bananas
2ml Esterblend 12

500g Solar Mega Pro Mix ( remember that protein mix )
6 eggs
3ml Pear of Bananas
2ml Esterblend 12
1 teaspoon Candy sweetener enhancer

500g Solar Neptune Base Mix
6 eggs
5ml Squid & Octopus

I still roll and use something very similar for cold water fishing, for nostalgic reasons. It was such a good bait!

Personally I wouldn't mix anything with the Squid and Octopus.
Isn't it one of the few alkaline attractors and mixing anything on the acidic side would only diminish its effectiveness?

Now you're talking, I'd still use it if available, maybe with a nut meal element added.
I've got the old Solar recipe pamphlet in a box somewhere...hmm

Used to use the S/O at 7ml per egg for hookbaits on a milk protein base way back in the early 90's and very effective it was to.

Squid & Octopus / ester cream and burying acid was always my favourite. Although im pretty certain I swapped the cream for scopex

Maybe I'll crack open my last bottle of RH Scopex for some pop-ups
