Matt does come across a bit like a grumpy old man sometimes ..... but I absolute do agree with his opinion on distance sticks - "a relatively easy job made more difficult"

I saw a post by Matt saying he's doing another series this year more like the total fishing series rather than rod race as well.
I've enjoyed this series tbh even if the fishing hasn't been that great and the challenge seems very easy lol.

I've been watching them, kind of chilled out watching - not as serious as the ones in the past.

Looking forward to the last episode with John Locker, think Matt and Mick will be learning a lot off John

I enjoyed them but as others said the production is a bit naff. Eposide 1 got 100k views (so far), episode 2 around half that.... subsequent episodes are at about 30k. not brilliant.

I've been watching these (just done episode 5), and I'm enjoying them for what they are, a nice relaxed bit of angling between two great mates, for what appears to be a completely ridiculous reason (just like the originals!)

And I guess there is a bit of the rose tinted specs as well ; I remember the early series when they came out, and Matt in the Fox videos with Max Cottis in the 90's, and his first book 'Coarse Fishing' (which I really rate), not to mention Mick being a top predator angler in his prime. Hope they do a few more, if not, a nice way to bow out.......

This was my take away. I really enjoyed it, but I can't understand why they need such an enormous production team? It seems like they spent a fortune filming this, but skimped on audio gear and cheap sounding stock music. I can't see them being able to get a return on their investment, which is a shame as I'd like to see more of them.

I watched this over the last couple of evenings and really enjoyed it.
Personally I feel the whole 'Rod Race' thing a bit lame and unnecessary, I'd just enjoy seeing the pair of them fishing and catching whatever, but it doesn't spoil it for me.
Hopefully they'll get enough support for them to continue to produce content going forward.

Yes I really liked it...all that effort for the sake of a poor mic voiceover doesn't make sense to me though.

Also, the voiceover sections seem like he's using a really cheap mic. Muffled and quiet.

I loved that Garmin GPS & electric motor that acted as a anchor. When they said there weren't any fish there and the frontal fish finder showed the same.. doh..lol....why even fish there.

Critique, in the doc Matt said he was glad to be in control of everything. I know this is the 1st episode and I'm sure this has already been commented on, on social media, but some very basic camera work errors, which imo shouldn't be happening. Filming in the shadow of the sun a lot of the time, not ready for fish shots, missing action. It's even less formal than the old laid back format, a good thing..hmm.

Don't get me wrong, I still very much enjoyed it, there's something special about 2 people totally relaxed in each other's company. Did I spot Mick with a can if beer on the boat, if it was it made a swift exit to the rear...probably to wash down the 3 pork pies

EDIT, Programmes, xmas eve, xmas day, boxing day, new years eve & 7th Jan

I watched the catch up docco last night. Can't believe Matt has been on the telly for over 30 years. I used to love Total Fishing alongside Go fishing and then enjoyed most of his other stuff - until it got a bit too serious.

What I will say though, is that it's great to have two real anglers fishing rather than those two washed up nineties comedians holding onto the last shreds of famedom.

I wonder if Rex and Bushy will make a comeback too soon, I hope so 🙂

Good to see these two back on again. Mick Brown has probably forgotten more about pike fishing than some will ever know. He even forgot that you shouldn't stand up holding a very lively, warm water caught pike for the camera haha. And did I see them handling the smaller fish with warm, dry hands ? And releasing an invasive species ( signal crayfish ) back into the water ? Yep, the fishing police are out tonight 😄 But gripes aside, a thoroughly good watch.
