In reply to Post #8 It's that when the drag is set to the most free setting, it's not that free vs. my XTEs. It requires more force to turn the spool / take line.
All three reels are exactly the same so I assume this is by design and not a fault, and as you say they may loosen up over time.
But even as they are, I imagine they are free enough for a fish to run. Hopefully I get to find out this weekend - giving them and my new C2s their first outing!

In reply to Post #1 Do you mean 'Sticky' or not fast enough as in takes too many turns to go from locked up to free running?
If it's the former, they might not have got enough grease (washers) during the manufacturing process.
As above, give them a bit of a running in.

In reply to Post #6 Good to know, cheers!

They have carbon washers and take a little bit of wearing in, mine were fine after the 1st session.

In reply to Post #4 Makes sense. I don't think there is a problem as such because all 3 reels are exactly the same and are brand new from the box. That tells me it's how they are intended to be, and when they are at their most "loose" the line still comes off plenty easy enough I should think.

In reply to Post #3 I'm going to guess that one has PTFE washers, and the other standard Felt washers.
You could chop and change them for aftermarket carbon ones, but probably the first thing I would do is email Future Reel Servicing and explain your issue and see what they suggest.
I have one of the older Ultegra XTE reels (spod), and I replaced the washers in that, although not for the same reason you are facing. I changed them because they were "draggy"

What type of spool drag washers are used between the differing models?

I've just got a set of 3 Ultegra XR XTDs to pair with my also new set of Century C2s. Very happy indeed.
The reels are an upgrade from the XTE and I have noticed that the drag on all 3 of them doesn't go nearly as free as it does on the XTE. Even at the apparently loosest setting, it is still much, much stiffer than the XTE.
Is that normal? I suppose it is given all 3 are like that, but why is that?
Cheers.
