In reply to Post #28 Wow.... couple of things about your response. I'm sure social media will have some influence on people's buying habits. I'm just not convinced it's as powerful as you think with regards to angling and all I asked for was some evidence for your assertion. You could be right, but it's a bit daft to make sweeping statements about what's essentially an echo chamber.
And no, I haven't been living under a rock. I just don't do social media for reasons you make clear with your snotty reply.

In reply to Post #28 Yep. This saying springs to mind....
A media sheep and his money are easily parted

In reply to Post #21 If you don’t think that massive amounts of money is transacted due to social media ‘influencers’, you must have been living under a rock this last few years.

Good luck to them all - it’s a watch or don’t watch for me.
The world has moved on and everything we all do is social media led, when this forum is offline for more than a day we are all saying it’s surprising how often we flick through.
We talk about carp tax - and it paying for these people - it’s always been that way, it used to be advertising products in magazines, at shows but SM now is one big billboard.
I very much doubt it will ever be a career for 99% of those that are flavour of the month, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they realise that - they are paid to make engaging content for as long as they are cool, but eventually will need a proper job.
In my younger days we’d hang on Ritchie’s every word, he now lives in a bivvy. The fishing industry is not like the others where influencers become millionaires- firstly it’s not very ‘woke’ so has a ceiling audience wise, secondly it’s actually a very dull hobby.
He seems to catch a few - seems a nice guy and not some skateboarder having a play at fishing. Good luck to them all - be it for a month or for a few years - I for one can’t think of a worse job than fishing even worse having to catch, I need to be able to have that ‘I’m not feeling it’ moment and load the van back up.

In reply to Post #19 I have to agree, but to me that's one of the reasons Nash (and others) might come a cropper. My impression of the younger generation and from my 3 nieces is that they are extremely fickle and quickly become bored. Unless the fishing companies regularly change their consultants they will become stale.
Personally I like some long term guys but of the newer crop I'm not impressed.
I have to say though, they can change. I watched a Lennon balkans video the other day and he's clearly listened to feedback, I actually quite enjoyed it. The Mrs watches them with me and wouldn't have watched it either as she didn't like the laddy behaviour. Even she asked what'd happened, nothing like previous vids....so there's hope!

In reply to Post #21 I can say that it is a fact that popular people on social media help shift a massive amount of product (just look how many YouTube millionaires there are). I am not talking specifically fishing related, but I see no reason why not. I'm like most people on here, couldn't give a damn about who is using what, I buy what is suitable for my situation and have zero brand loyalty. However my kids are very much caught by the social media bug and I would argue that most young people are the same

In reply to Post #19 OK... what evidence do you base your view on? Or is just "belief/feelings?

In reply to Post #1 I like Scott Lloyd. The guy has massive adhd, and is a bit of a character for sure
He suffers with addiction etc. and has spent a bit of time inside, all for silly stuff that once you see him on social media, you can imagine him doing. Yet he's still quite a loveable character
Catches a lot of big fish, and whilst he is full time, there's something about the way he goes about things that for me, and a lot of people is more interesting than hearing Terry Hearn talk about 'boring them out' over a 2 chewed up tigernuts over and over again
It's potentially quite a clever appointment by Nash, and he fits their narrative perfectly

In reply to Post #17 99% of younger people are addicted to social media. Plenty make a living from it. Doesn’t matter what you, me or anyone else thinks, fact is a massive amount of money is transacted due to social media influence.

In reply to Post #17 I'm the same, no idea who he is, won't go out of my way to look out or search for him, though I'm sure he'll crop up on a Nash vid I'll watch and I hope he'll be entertaining.

In reply to Post #13 Only if you're addicted to social media. Been fishing since l was 5 and carp fishing for 35 years. Never bought a single item of tackle because of an angler. Sorry.... just one, the Coleman stove Julian Cundiff used to use back in the 90's.

Clever move by Nash. I think they realised they need more than there employees promoting the brand. Scott Lloyd seems to be the man of the moment can only mean good things for Nash.
