In reply to Post #17 If you run out of the elastic at some point just buy pole elastic to replace it, unless you want to buy the Fox stuff that is, pole elastic is far cheaper

Thanks both, yes found it and clipped a couple on 👍

In reply to Post #9 Yep absolutely...especially if you have an old spool of the Kerplunk that came in a right old mix of colours on a huge spool.....the lead wire in this is thicker and less likely to snap when you wrap it around the hooklink than the likes of ESP etc.
I also then just wrap a little bit of putty around it - it grips amazingly well, and as Mark says, the lead wire never comes off.

In reply to Post #17 As philip says the elastic is tucked under a plastic cover on the outer of the round tub the weights come in

The elastic should have come with it,it might be tucked inside the outer rim of the box
Mine is 👍

In reply to Post #16 What elastic tubing do I need to get? Didn't realise what I bought was just the weights lol

In reply to Post #1 I've swapped all shots to these now..
Fox Edges Kwik Change Pop Up Weights.. you secure them onto your rig with a fine rubber tubing.
They don't come off or damage your hook link

In reply to Post #13 Thank you, yeaah I did try sticking it in the bait with the old really small pole float shots and lead core but it either bent, didn't go in or did go in but was sitting wobbly. But Ifound some less bouyant popups - like original pop up bouancy, so thankfully didn't have to carry on with that
I've ordered some of those Fox kwik split shot things - only £ 349 at AD so figured worth a go

In reply to Post #10 Except for the size of the shot that is, a BB used to pin down a pop-up, now these new super buoyant pop-ups mean more is needed to pin them down. The exception to that (that I've used) are your small ones, DNA's and Stoglemans.
Another option, old fashioned way, you could always add a bit of fuse wire (or lead core if it'll go in) pushed into the bottom of the bait, that way you could reduce the size of the shot. I'd forgotten about olivettes!

In reply to Post #10 Nothing wrong with the rig. Just that monster non toxic shot. When it turns it will literally completely close the gape, that’s all. You never want that happening inside a carps mouth.
You are using normal old style rigs. Most of the newer breed are all using spinners, SHR & Chods etc. All need very bouyant pop ups to hold all the metal work up. Barrel of a size 8 swivel weighs more than sea hooks, metal screw, often tungsten components. That’s why Onslow.

In reply to Post #10 Another alternative-
An Olivette -slimmer and some can be pegged/locked in various ways
I do also have some v large Styl type weights that are neat.

In reply to Post #9 Ahhh, it is a dirty old rig for sure, but everywhere it gets wet, fish hook themselves on it. It's why it hasn't changed for well over 10 years.

I have tried the lead core and putty trick, but my eyes aren't very good any more and my fingers are too fat so I've never been happy with the end result hence sticking with split shot.

That monster split shot is not the one anyway. Losing them or not. Not how you have it displayed in the photo, but that is going to close the gape for the hooking potential an awful lot and cost you hook ups without doubt. It will also be blunting your hooks dinging against the point.
Get some leadcore, remove some of the soft real lead. Twist the lead wire around your hook length, up and back down overlapping each other. Then concertina it all together. Rolling it between finger & thumb. Make it's profile longer so it does not close the gape of that hook. Mould over the top with minimal putty to create a longer, very neat weight.
It NEVER comes off. Not ever. It costs you buttons.

In reply to Post #7 Not sure, they're either in the little red or blue pots, I'd assumed they were all lead free these days. They normally get squashed on using my teeth which has always been OK.
I'll have a look at your other suggestions, but yeah £20 for a pot, I'd expect them to put the fish on the hook for me 😂😂
EDIT: those Fox things look pretty good. A bit spenny vs split shot at £7 a pot, but worth a go and if they don't fall off that's a bonus thanks 👍
