I picked up HL500 from decathlon in france this year after I misplaced a Lenser HF4R.
It made me realise that I much prefer it when the headtorch is on a strap that goes all the way through the mounting bracket & can be shifted up & down. It feels more comfortable leaving it on to sleep

I got a Sunblesa after it was recommended on here. It’s light, small, bright (not ridiculously so), good battery life, comfortable and well priced. What’s not to like

In reply to Post #24 Hmm, that must have been my original one then, so more like 25 years than 30 I was doing some soldering and put it down next to the iron, which promptly fell off it's stand and melted the case Probably still be using it now otherwise.

In reply to Post #22 Ive been using the same petzle tikka head torch for a good 20 years and its still fine. I fish 2 nights every week all year so it gets some usage. I use rechargable AA batteries in it.
Ive got a more modern usb charging nitecore nu25 one but that stays as back up and rarely get used. I prefer the petzle.

The ledlenser ones are great. They come in at different price points depending on what features you want.
I leave mine outside dangled on the butt of the middle rod. The one I've got is totally waterproof, and has been faultless.

In reply to Post #21 Always used Petzl , always will . I’ve had a spare for around three years but never needed it . 👌

Mines a Petzl Tactikka Core and before that another Petzl, 2 in near 30 years. They get used for fishing, camping and in winter walking the dogs twice a day so, they get a lot more use than only fishing. My only gripe is having to replace the head bands due to wear.
We also own 2 Energisers that are used with high ah rechargeable batteries, the sort used in bike lights, those torches are very good too, if not in the build quality.

In reply to Post #13 I think Gerry recommended me a Fenix back in the day, which I still use now... something rechargeable and lighter would be good though. I've seen the Nitecore shop on Ali. £20 for a NU25, not bad!

In reply to Post #1 I’ve used Sunblesa for a good few years, curtesy of OG, however mine has started to play up after many nights use over the past few years,
So I’ve taken the plunge and given the Flextail head torch a go, Tiny HELIO 600z
It’s early days yet so I can’t really say if it’s better, as a start it certainly seems good.

I went with Gerry’s recommendation of a Nitecore 25. Does everything I need and got it when it was on offer.
God bless the old bugger
