Exactly the same for me mate, I'm short too. The extra foot makes a big difference when casting heavy spombs a distance. It makes no difference what length your fishing rods are.

I know i did consider it, however my fishing rods are 12ft and im only a short arse so I decided that id keep it to a 12ft and improve my technique and go from there. I might be wrong but I figured a 13ft spod rod would be better suited if i was using 13ft fishing rods too.

You'd be better with a 13ft for distance, it makes things much easier

It wasn't exactly a great deal, TFT did me the rod and reel for £300.
AD had the rod for £150 but no stock available! Wave Inn was a better price for the 13ft but i wanted a 12ft.

Mastic spod, sounds like a rod breaker 😅 sounds good for short range tho.

Reminds me of the early days of spodding.
I was using the harrison rocketeer, easy to put a bend in it, and i could chuck/lob a home made full sized mastic tube spod about 70 yards.
I had a try with my mates century big Bertha, much stiffer but you felt the weight and couldn't compress the rod so it was a slog to hit 70 yards with it.

I had a freespirit lrs hard work ended up with a shimano tx extreme. So much lighter and easy to get 25 wraps and a lot more with a bit of effort.

Yes definitely need to work on my casting! Would i be right in thinking the Dawia Super Spod wouldn't be ideal combination with the reel?

That Crosscast Spod reel is decent. As others have said, you need a capable rod (and a whole lot more technique wise) to go with it.

I did the same - not a huge upgrade but went from a Greys GT spod to a Freespirit CTX one. And changed reels to a Penn 8000 spod reel. The difference was night and day.
