So they are heavy, but that's not enough for me to stop using them.

Echo what has been said, I had a set for near on 20 years. One of the best reels ever made for me, I had many happy times sat behind those. Sadly, technology does move on and they are a little heavy. I thought about buying some more but I would use them. Used Daiwa reels for most of my life, now on Shimano, just because I can. Still using some power aero xta,s line lay is superb and the cranking power, will be devastated if these pack up.

@Singlebleep, I bet that was fun albeit satisfying fun. I've got this image of taking the cover off and the contents springing off in all directions

@DaveSG, you're not wrong, Daiwa tend to be very good, however, 2 years ago I spoke to them about a much older reel, a 2553 and they told me they're not keeping parts for reels as long anymore. They did tell me but I've forgotten.

@ Yonny, the thought did cross my mind about value and buying some more. It would be nice to have a 4th but in the past my old 5000T has stood in. I should be honest with myself really, with the amount of time I get to go out nowadays is it worth it...hmm

Improvements if they do come back, I'd like to see them lighter and with longer standard taper spools, & shallow spool options, oh, and the obvious, a better line clip EDIT and a faster retrieve rate.

I'm thinking of piking this winter so I'd like to get some braid on the spools, but bringing myself to strip 3 and replace isn't appealing to me, lazy I know!

Great reels and brilliant value second hand.
Kinda regret selling a set a while ago.
No doubt value will increase now.

If a tackle shop has had a last batch there should still be spares available,
Daiwa are pretty good with keeping spares, worth giving them a try.
Ive always had great service from them.

When i had infinity br's and my emblem z's i thought they looked the same and tried them, the internal diameter hole on the spool is different from memory the infinity had a bigger diameter main shaft so the emblem spools wouldnt fit on them.

The infinity spools would physically fit on the emblem but obviously wouldnt centre correctly

Do the Emblem X/Z5000 / 5500A spools fit them? (Also ABS reverse taper spools - look very similar and have rubber line guard ring etc)

Great reels but im surprised they have lasted this long as everyone seems to want the lightest reels possible these days. I one reel i wish they never discontinued is the original iso. Best carp reel ever made imo that one.

I bought a set of used infinity's off eBay. I didn't use them for about a year and when I did I found out I'd been ripped off and they were dogs. The previous owner had tried to service themselves and had seriously ****ed them up with half the components fitted wrongly, damaged or missing.

I got a schematic diagram, stripped them down and with parts from Jim's reel shop rebuilt them by trial and error, gaining in the process a deep understanding of how they work ( they are probably one of the most complex reels I've ever stripped), learning along the way that making a couple of specific tools made the job much easier. The one thing that amazed me though is for the size of the reels and their definite robustness is how fine and delicate the springs are. They are not much thicker than human hair - amazing when you think what they do and generally last forever if not ****ed about with.

I had them for years. Still got a donor reel I bought for parts knocking about somewhere.
