In reply to Post #1 Most hooks open up or snap because they aren't in properly. Try tweaking your rig a bit to see if that helps. id start by lengthening it a little

In reply to Post #1 I had one slightly open on a double figure Barbel in a weirpool. Still landed it, but that was enough for me to change to the X version instead. Trouble with the X is, they’re so strong that if I get snagged on a rock (sometimes happens on the rocky tidal Trent where I mainly fish), even a straight pull with 15lb line won’t open them out. They're certainly not ever opening with rod pressure.

This year I changed my preferred hook pattern of Korda curve shank to the wide gape hook pattern. Never had a problem with Korda hooks before, always very sharp and reliable but until my recent trips. The lake I was fishing has no snags or thick weed but the fish don’t half scrap. On using the wide gape hook I had one open up n me which resulted in a loss fish and one hook completely snap on me. Neither of these fish was played hard and can’t really understand why this has happened. Anybody else experience this before? or is it just a bad batch that has fallen into my hands?. I do want to continue using Korda hooks but I’ve lost a bit of confidence now and thinking of changing over to another company’s hooks maybe
