It maybe too late in the year now. But if you haven't already, sit on the bank with the wind coming over your shoulder and fire in a few pouches of dog biscuits. Try and sit above water level if you can.

Watch them drift down the pond to see if anything rises for them. If the lake is a funny shape follow them swim by swim. Don't put a line in.

Repeat several times and hopefully something will show.

They could leave in the floods, been predated or even stolen. Until you see a few you’ll never know. Hypothetically anything could have happened to them. It’s possible they are in there and hiding. My club has a tiny little 0.2 acres pond that you can spend a day looking round and never see a carp. Next day you’ll see 10. That’s max 6ft deep in the summer months with water clear enough to see down to 2ft depths.

Possible they’re still in there but just have to keep looking. I spent 4yrs walking about an old quarry in the middle of nowhere after hearing a rumour of a carp in there a decade previously. 4 years it took before I actually saw a carp in there.

Not sure why this thread turned in to an otter moaning one by the usual suspects so hopefully my post puts it back on track.

What a waste of a beautiful creature ..

Rewilders have surpassed themselves, by taking two orphaned otters from Shropshire, to UKWOT ,UK wild otter Trust..to another prominent rewilding site over 500 acres ,let them go into the stream ,which feeds into other watercourses, which lead to several carp and coarse fishing lakes ...

Of course ,....they ,the rewilders lie,because repeatedly they have stated no more otters have been released ...they lie ....a lot ...

Fishing a lake of about 5 acres in size , up to 6ft deep max in parts, with a rough stock of 40 fish , theres a stream exit point which is incredibly shallow and hypothetically fish could pass through in winter floods. fished it repeatedly all spring/ summer through weed growth to the lakes surface, algae blooms etc.. and caught absolutely nothing , being honest I cannot hand on heart say I've seen a definite carp..this is a lake in absolute middle of nowhere nature reserve about a mile from nearest road, not pressured, no fished much, is it possible otters took all the fish, they escaped, they are hiding.. any experiences with seemingly shallow lakes where fish evaporate then reappear...for context I've done 4 nights, several day sessions andn even sessions in summer months , not seen another angler
