In reply to Post #6 Bought a set of the obsidians this morning
Had to travel 60 miles to look at them and first impressions are very good
Managed to get them at £130 a reel with a price match at angling direct
Only fault so far is the larger spool reducer leaves you able to put about 100 yards of 15 lb line on
Can’t really see the point
Will update after a few sessions

In reply to Post #3 +1 for 5000Ts on 12' mid range rods - I went back to them after messing with alternatives over the years - mine are pimped internally and have QD but they are just solid / familiar and do everything required. Also use 6000Ts on 13' range rods . . . heavier than Basias and pimped with worm drives / QD etc but again they just work . . . .

In reply to Post #1 I have some Crosscasts and can’t fault them for the price. The Crosscast spod reel I have (new version) is excellent. Worth a look.

Tournament 5000t's will cost you a few quid, but will probably last longer than you need them.
I've got spare spools so just have different lines for different requirements.
Most of the time they are on 12'9 3.5tc Terry hearns, but on occasion have found themselves on 3lb 12ft rods and been faultless on both.
Great clutch, line lay and reliability

In reply to Post #1 Stay away from Fox reels,Okuma obsidian are the best reels in the lower price bracket.Penn are worth a look too but for me the obsidian is around 140-150 a reel and are as good as the 400 shimano range of reels

Good evening everyone
I currently have two sets of rods 3 1/4 and 3 3/4 and one set of reels. ( power aero )
Fed up with swapping the reels over to suit different venues
So looking for recommendations on some new / second hand reels
They will be matched up to the free spirit 12”6 3 1/4 rods
I have always used shimano and was thinking about the 5500 xtb as I owned some in the past as was happyish with them
Mostly to be used under 100 yards and a budget of £400 max
I don’t want it to turn into a slating match but I am open to suggestions
Quite like the look of the crosscast or the fox but have never used either
Thanking all in advance.
Stay safe everyone
