In reply to Post #4 There are still a few english manufacturers left who do very well ie, jag, cotswold, mps to name but a few. There will always be an english market as people will pay a premium for uk products.

In reply to Post #18 Worth starting a thread where we can comment on the cheaper items we have used that we are pretty sure are the same as expensive items ? or we could add them to the bargain thread.

I've used Ali quite a bit. Some of their stuff is crap so by the time you've thrown that away it's not as cheap as you think. So just be careful what you buy. Some stuff is clearly identical to the expensive uk brands and that's where you save.

In reply to Post #8 Alot of stuff is designed abroad companies have it made in corporate colours and packaged then it's shipped. So you then see two or three companies with the same item but different colours. Some is designed here then taken over four quotes.
Imagine how big a factory would have to be to make everything Nash sell. They could never afford the building hundreds of machines and thousands of staff.
The other give away is how long things take to come back into stock once sold out. Retailers can be out of stock for a couple of months or more.
That and years ago ordering and getting goods in outer packaging with made in China or ROC on them.
We produce next to nothing in the UK.

In reply to Post #13 And people wonder why Trump's playing with tarrifs!
What annoys me is once in the U.K postal system why do they not at least not pay U.K rates.
Another subject alas!

In reply to Post #14 Many tackle shops don’t do themselves any favours. For instance, I spent well over four figures at TFT over a few years and never returned anything. But when I had an issue with a bivvy, they were incredibly difficult to deal with. I’ll never shop there again, no matter how much cheaper their prices are.
By contrast, I recently had a fault with a new Delkim alarm on Monday. I rang Delkim, explained the problem, and they asked where I bought it. When I said Johnson Ross, they told me to return it and ask for Lewis or Anthony for an exchange. They said to have the shop contact them if there were any issues. I did as instructed, and Johnson Ross quickly replaced the alarms, so I was ready to fish again.
Johnson Ross may not always have the lowest prices, but being able to speak to a person and be treated with respect is worth the extra cost, in my opinion. Sadly, there are more bad tackle shops than good ones.

In the next thread everyone is bemoaning the death of the tackle shop....

In reply to Post #9 It's freaky weird how they can post things from China and the prices wouldn't even cover the postage.
Is the Chinese government ensuring postage is rock bottom to allow these companies a free hit at global domination

Many moons ago a then friend worked for Leslies of Luton - he handed me some catalogues and said look at these it had all the latest items for sale at a fraction of the cost unbranded (Not reels) There are not hundreds of factories in China pumping out fishing kit just a few who the majority of companies use. Id have zero issue with using these item from Ali Express in fact i probably am as I use items from mark one development, carper essentials and bank tackle. These companies have just seen a niche and are happy making a few pence here and there, and it adds up to a living.

I've not used AE much but have used Temu a bit for peripherals, last lot being tripple ridged eva spools to take floater hook lengths. Among other things, I bought cutters, scissors, zingers, treble covers, floater floats and I can't complain on the quality.
Will it destroy tackle companies in the U.K, no, I think people will still buy into branded gear but it might eat away at margains a little.

In reply to Post #9 Fair play to the person who is doing this and making money. We all need to earn a living.

Latest business model is ‘Drop Shopping.
You see an item you like at the price you like and order from an on-line company. Item arrives job done.
What has really happened is someone sat in their house has taken your order. They don’t hold any stock whatsoever. All they have is a computer, a web page and a business address. So for example you bought a packet of swivels for £2.50. They order the swivels off a Chinese company ( Temu, Ali Express etc) for £1.00. They give your address to the Chinese company who ship the item to you. The Drop shopper has made £1.50 for 40 seconds work ordering the item. The Chinese company has made the item, stored the item, pick listed the item and posted the item.
Look at a lot of the cheap items of terminal tackle on eBay then look at exactly the same items on the Chinese sites for the even cheaper prices. The Chinese company is happy to make a small profit sometimes even a loss to establish itself in the market so puts up with it. However once they dominate the market they will push up the prices.
