I am really fussy about my hooks, to me I have found the best have a certain angle from the parallel point to the eye. Not too open gape just enough to improve hooking and ***** in the first place, but I believe the more closed the gape the better they will stay in once they have found a purchase. To me the ideal is a bit of a balance between the two. I used to love the esp raptor long shanx, but they are hard to get hold of now. Take a look at the IB hooks long shanks very simular but even sharper (the standard eruo-range). I have found them to be perfect and have a really hard point that stays sharp even when fishing on the bottom over gravel.

In reply to Post #16 I suspect the angling iron and carp spirit are one and the same hooks, certainly look and feel the same.

In reply to Post #14 Closest, except maybe the Carp Spirit ones...
I know packaging isn't everything but literally only the make of the make changed on the box.

In reply to Post #13 I'm down to my last pack of those Ace long shanks.... i bought a box full when they went under and were going cheap... really rate them.
Me too
Regarding the Bank Tackle Hooks, they've got 15% off at the mo, just put a post in the 'bargains Section' if anyones interested.

In reply to Post #13 Angling Iron hooks are as near as you will get to the old Ace hooks, certainly they are the same pattern.

The other "kinda" longshanks that I've been trying recently are the ESP trig-hammers... a long shank with a slight bend. Super sharp, turn well and seem pretty diverse in their rig application. Will be using them more this year.

In reply to Post #11 The fox hooks look very similar to Owner C7 hooks, which are a very good hook. I bought several packets of these a few years when I thought they were going out of production, but I understand they are still widely available in Europe.

In reply to Post #10 I've still got quite a few series 1 and I'd have to say no. They were a plain round wire, I tried for ages to find a similar hook. One thing that got me looking again last year or so was the Fox hook I was using for floaters and I found very similar hooks classed as fly tying hooks. I took it no further but it wouldn't surprise me if the Fox Series 1 were a generic pattern and probably still available.

I would say Fox series 1 but they have been discontinued ages ago.
Anyone know if there is an exact equivalent?

In reply to Post #8 They would’ve been the naff ones from the “classics” range.
The newer “BT Specialist” ones are much better and I’m as happy using those as the Angling Iron ones (which are very similar, if not identical to the old Ace Razorpoints/Carp Spirit ones).

I've been using the J Precision longshank (not the advanced version) for a few years now and they are good hooks.
I had some Bank Tackle long shank hooks years ago and they were awful, they may have improved them since then.

In reply to Post #4 I think they are the same.
The Carp Spirit ones are certainly very good - I think I saw Frank Warwick recommending these ones somewhere, thats saying something for a longshank.
Nash LS Twister OK too, especially if you want heavier wire.

In reply to Post #4 I think
Max cottis is with ridgemonkey now so they may also have access to the same hook.

In reply to Post #1 I used Fox for around 2 decades but they changed and the eye was too open. I found Ace Razor to be a superb replacement. That hook is no longer available marketed as Ace but I believe it might be the Carp Spirit nowadays, maybe somebody can confirm? It's in the foeum historically via the search, maybe it's pre 2020 though so maybe lost.
