Correct me if I'm wrong but could it be dependent on what type of knot is being used?

If the line was tied directly to the eye, or a ronnie/spinner for example, would these not put pressure on the bend at the eye?

If whipped around the shank then yes I agree that the pressure would be minimal.

The pressure is on the bend of the hook - obviously!
Surprised this thread has run - bend the eye by all means as long as you don't go too mad.

I was surprised to see Mr Fairbrass bend the eye of one his hooks in a video the other day. He was following the bend though & not going back in the opposite direction - I would say that is critical. Bending the hook against the bend would surely be a lottery.

There's no real way of knowing for sure it's strong enough until you have a fish on, & for the price of a pack of hooks I'd have peace of mind.

Some people like to tinker & each to their own.

IMO
DONT DO IT.
Go back in time check out The Bent Hook Rig.

By all accounts it emptied waters for the likes of Rob Maylin Et Al.

However their continued usage had Parrot Mouth and other deformoties attributed to it.
Lot of waters banned it from memory.

Be that the case or not fish care first. So i wouldnt ever touch a bent hook again.

Proper blast from the past there Dave!

I’ve done the same with conti’s - it is possible to bend them but they are definitely weaker & it’s too much of a risk when I can just add a kicker.

Bending hooks does weaken them.

I used to do this with drennan boilie hooks but the temper of the wire was so good the eyes would snap off too much when bending.
Easier to use some sort of kicker to straighten the line angle.

Moved to Rigs section.

Also are there other rigs other than chod rigs that chod hooks are good for

You can use chod hooks (out-turned eye) for Multi-Rigs and I'd suggest any rigs where you are using a stiff hook link material.
Just my opinion there.
