I’ve got some proper job tips dumbells and have no problem
With them splitting using a fine splicing needle

Use a 10mm rubber bead instead, the fish won't know.

In reply to Post #1 Just tie them on like you would a pop up.
Or if you are worried, mesh up in some womens tights and put a baiting needles through them, wouldn't matter if they split, the mesh prevents you being bait less and blanking.

In reply to Post #1 If they are splitting when defrosted and frozen, id be more concerned about them staying on once out in the water.
My suggestions off the top of my head - buy some hard hookers (i think they do a small dumbell from memory) or wrap the baits in some tights and then use a baiting needle. Also worth trying the ultra fine splicing needles if you have any

In reply to Post #2 Same happened with a baiting needle hence trying to drill them

In reply to Post #1 Why do you need to drill them? Just use a good sharp baiting needle

Hi
I’ve bought some 12mm Sticky Manilla freezer boilies for use as hookbait and freebies for an up coming session but whatever I try I can’t drill the boilies without them splitting.
I’ve tried straight from the freezer, defrosted, air drying for a couple of days, rehydrating in glug and water and different sized drills (from 0.7mm to 2mm) but they always split.
Am I doing anything wrong? Can I try anything else or just use the 10mm as freebies and get some bigger for hook bait?
