If you want a depth map of the lake, install the Deeper app (IOS or Android), sign up for free 7 day trial and see if the lake has been mapped. If so, screenshot the map (and any other lakes you fish) and then cancel the subscription before the 7 day trial ends.

don't be intimidated by the size of it. chunk it up into parts & those parts into different areas

look at every swim as an individual piece of water - & concentrate on the water that you are comfortable fishing. fishing at distance might be the trend but they will love the margins at some point so don't neglect them.

get searching for ariel shots on the internet - check different sites (apple, google maps, google earth, bing etc) - they are typically different pictures & you may find they tell you different things. also check & see if you can go back historically & look at shots from previous years. look for bank that gets the most sun, the north east corner (where the big south westerlies blow).

get some decent boots / trainers & get walking.

good luck

If the lake is accessible have a good walk around before you set up to try and find the fish. That is the main difference in fishing smaller lakes (even though finding the fish is undoubtedly essential on any lake). As already been said, didn't where the fish are, find some features or spots in said area (bars, plateaus, gaps in weed, hard bottoms, silt etc) and fish sensibly to these. Again this has already been said but don't be fooled into thinking you need to cast to the horizon to catch (I fish a lake of c.22 acres and last year had one of the larger fish of mid 40s just 25 yards out in 3ft of water)

As James said in post#2, just do the things that you would normally do. Also, try different things out and listen to what others have to say. Try different rigs/baits/spots on each rod - fish up to features, long range, margins, try particles, boilies, PVA bags, just to try and get a feel for what works. Most importantly, enjoy the new challenge!!!

Firstly don't be fooled into thinking you have to fish at maximum range to get bites.

Secondly - do what you do, look for signs of fish and build a knowledge.

Unfortunately the only thing that helps is to walk around a look for signs, spend time on seeing where fish are at what time of year. Talk to other's fishing, note areas people catch from. etc etc. If you fishing regularly pre bait before you leave for next time.

Its no different approach just on a bigger scale

Hi All,

I have a new ticket starting at the end of April on a much bigger lake than I've ever fished (just under 30 acres) I have only fished small syndicates and club lakes in the past up to about 5 acres.

Any advice for fishing someone so big (for me).

The lake about about a two hour round trip away so it's not like I can go for a walk around it will just be when I fish I get to have another walk around and t seems quite daunting.

Thank you in advance !

Ryan
