Thank you all for your comments!
Very interesting!

I meant.the Method Feeder indeed. Wasnt aware that there might be a difference to Method fishing.

A friend of mine who also started carp fishing in the mid 80ies here in Germany uses the method feeder almost exclusively nowadays and catches very big fish with it so I thought I give it a try 😊👍🏻.

I just have to get my mix sorted as it sometimes explodes in the surface even in shorter casts. Need more binding agents and more liquid I guess.

Very interesting reg hook size if 4 and even 2 recommended as well.
My first tries I used size 10 (a size I normally never usw). Hooked many strong commons up to 15kg and these small buried themselves in the bottom lip and never came out even though these we're really hard fights in the admittedly light rods.

As I said, small percentages have me favouring a bag.

if you think that could happen, you're using the wrong mix

it's very common over here & a friend who uses it a lot has been doing some underwater filming with it.

some of the footage has been very interesting - on more than one venue the fish appear to spook off it / avoid it very quickly after it has been used - I'm not sure if this is due to his mix (oats & creamed corn) or the presentation but they were actively avoiding it. He has footage of it happening on a couple of different rivers & a lake.

I don't think it does - the hook link could free itself from the groundbait ball in the air or in midwater and tangle or get snared up. If I get a drop on a solid bag - even on a tight spot - then I am confident. It may be small percentages but enough for me to favour a bag.

I understand what you're saying but I think they're the same thing being used differently, and to restrict yourself in mind set to one way or the other means you're already at a disadvantage, hence me referencing match tactics.

Why think your bait will be there for hours, even if on a low stockled pit, or I'll need to recast often. If you've put yourself on the fish a quickly disintergrating method will be a distinct advantage (as it is in match/commercial fishing), if you haven't then alter your method to suit.

Perhaps the OP could clarify the technique they are referring to. Since the OP specifically states “method feeder” and also the “Method”, which are possibly two different things.
Method feeder is commonly referred to for flat open feeders that are packed with pellets (sticky consistency) and the hookbait is placed on or semi-in the pellet mass. Recasring will typically be every 15 minutes (max) and thus fished with a quivertip rod (rather than bite alarm).

Welcome to the forum Marruo

I've used method on and off for 30 years, last 10 years almost exclusively, here and abroad.

1, Difficult to answer really, Method can do anything a pva bag can do, but you can use any liquids. You have to look to the match scene to see how variable method mixes can be and what they can do. Carp methods tend to be stodgy affairs but they don't have to be, they can be explosive and instant if that's what you want.

2, 1st thing I'd say, ignore trend, 2nd method here is very unpopular and as such may be a edge (maybe no so popular where you are too?). You don't need to recast a method every half hour, why would you? Even if other fish have stripped the method there will still be lingering particles around, and besides, what's the difference between a bare method and a bare lead boilie only approach. Casting distance, yes if comparing to a stream lined heli for ultimate distance but if using smaller methods, no not really, your rod will be the limiting factor.

3, I've had fish to 25kg on method. For France my personal preference for about the last decade is a Korda Krank in size 4, 4" braid hook link and a 12mm pop up on a running screw.
I might lengthen that hooklink and I might use a size 2, depends on the fish. I also might use a coated stiff hooklink if I think I'm being done on the braid (it works very well). I probably use a stringer in that case but I'll use a stringer quite often regardless if it'll cast to where I want.

4, That's entirely up to you. If I'm using a bait boat I'll send the method out with boilies, pellets and looser ground bait balls. If I can I'll always have loose feed boilies in the swim using whatever method, stringers, catapult etc.

I like a really sticky method nowadays, more paste than anything else as I'm confident it'll stay out there doing what I want it to (attracting fish) for longer, even if other fish are pecking away at it. If I were fishing a water where other fish would be an issue I'd obviously reconsider hook bait size if it became a problem.

And the method doesn't?

I’d be using a solid bag over the method simply because it pretty much guarantees presentation of the rig.

Some thoughts from me

From an out and out attraction perspective for me its as good as it gets, a mass of activity around your hook bait that can instantly pull fish in

For big carp fishing, say over 20lb, I have never been convinced myself but that could be a lot to do with what is in most peoples mixes, fine ground crumb etc, if you went down a route with bait that was attractive to bigger carp, chopped boilies, hemp and corn for example you are using something that they would eat. The final question with experienced fish, do they want a great big ball of bait throwing on top of them, in match circles its know as banging the dinner gong, bigger fish not convinced. Two distinct differences between match and carp fishing, with match you are feeding a swim and accept that fish are happy with bait raining down on them, carp fishing, lob a load of bait, no disturbance and sit over it. Stock density and competition for food is everything though for me.

If you dont try it you will never know. If its something they have not seen before, unpressured fish, you may get some results

New to the forum, yet a long time carp angler from Europe.
Lots of good advise and knowledge here so I am sure you can answer
questions about method feeder fishing, a type of fishing I have only recently started and something I am very interested in.

So please bear with my questions 😊.

1. Is the Method any different in presentation or effectiveness to a PVA bag or solid bag? I am aware it is faster than PVA and maybe easier to handle but is there any difference underwater or in attracting fish?
2. Would this be a method for middle sized gravel pits with lower stocks of carp? The general opinion probably being that its more effective to leave your bait out for longer periods of time and not recast every half hour or so. Also you are limited reg range of casting
3. What hook to use and what size if you are expecting slightly bigger fish up to and
over 15kg?
4. Would you constantly bait up spots with pellets or groundbait?

Thank you for your comments!
