As I said, rehydrating baits in acidic water may be beneficial. It's the contaminants that might be present from the collection process that would worry me.

The water used to rehydrate the bait isn’t going to top the lake up by an inch, so I’d expect it’s OK.

100% shelf life's are much better than they use too, the point i was trying to make was freezer baits take on ore liquid than shelf life's which gives me more confidence, i still have 5kg of shelf life sitting in my van.

As already said they are talking about weekly 10-15% water change not just a few mm of rain. Having said that many do put a roof over the pond but that is more to stop too much sunlight in the summer.

Koi ponds are a very finely balanced system as they are often massively overstocked and overfeed compared to any lake on the planet. On some of the koi ponds just a couple of days of poor water management such as a failed filter or pump can lead to dead koi....some owners won't even risk going on holiday for fear of what could happen when they are away for a week.

I'm sure shelfies are much better than they were, but I'm from the school of freezer baits air dried to store them, never let me down.

I used to rehydrate with Feedstim XP, but it didn't seem the same when I picked up a bottle last spring, hence the shout.

Calanus is a new one to me and looks interesting, or I might prepare a batch of tigers just for the spunk.

This is why i prefer frozen over shelf life even though shelf life suits my fishing better, frozen takes on more liquids.

I tend to boil the kettle and pour boiling water over the boilie's and close the lid, add any glug/liquids you want and the boilies will absorb.

You wouldn't, but but an inch of rain in a 5ft deep pond is a lot different to a 20% water change.

How would you avoid rain in Koi ponds without putting a roof aver them ?

Be careful if using a water butt. Rain water was seen as acidic not so long back (maybe a good thing in a bait) and not to be used for topping up koi ponds. May not be so bad now with the reduction in heavy industry.
My major concern would be where it's collected from. A lot roofs use bitumastic products, especially flat roofs. I wouldn't want it tainting my bait.

I'm a bit tempted to just keep dropping more bait and sauces in the tub throughout the season

Could either end up a rancid mess, or be the best thing I've ever tried

A mixture of Skipjack and tnm.

I've gone with honey and warm water for starters, figured the sugars in an air tight lid should keep them preserved for a little while.

Yeah might add a fish sauce next if it looks like I can get any more juice in them.

Oooh, rain water from the water but, good shout deffo try that in the future

Fish sauce would be a good option. Really thin and salty

Water butt (won’t get much closer to pond water )with whatever liquids take your fancy..
What “flavour “ are the boilies

Cheers, I'm not up to speed with hydros so wouldn't know where to start.

But condensed milk will work just fine and dandy, thanks
