Thanks for replys , the xtb med have done me well and landed catfish to 62lb but needed bit more power ,
I found myself using them more and more on my 10ft rods on my smallish venues.
I bought some harrisons te 12'6 on hear last year that id like the big boys for when i fish the big gravel pits and the yearly cat lake .

The ci4s are the obs choice in all versions but its finding a set of 3
Must admit i do like the look of them xtr,a if they pop up .

Base version tho whats the best year lcs in terms of build , strengh , user ability ,clutch for playing fish , power etc so far i have been told 1st xta , then og then the new xtbs
There all quite dear for a set of 3 so wont be changing once got and be keeping for years to come so dont wanna buy wrong ones
Thanks

I got these for my 3.5lb rods as I wanted to use fluorocarbon , and feel it's better on a larger spool. I use the medium size on my 3lb rods with mono. I have the ci4 in both sizes. My favourite reels, i like using baitrunners, rather than front drag only reels. I still have a pair of xtbs on my 2.5lb sportex rods although they rarely get used these days.

I bought my Ultegra 5500 xtbs in 2006 still going strong today can’t justify in my head changing.
Would like a set of the old castizms but they hold their money too well.

Though going by your name I’d say no need to change they’ll be safe for many years to come 👍🏼

If your happy with the medium xtb l would stick with them but with going up in size l would go with the ci4 model

XTR-A would be my choice Ci4 body, smooth as silk and a lot lighter than the original. They're harder to find today though and possibly more costly than originals.

Hi there i have the shimano lc xtb med for the last 5 years think there great .
Im thinking of getting the bigger large xtbs for some other rods but always hear the old ones are better.
Are the 1st ones regurded as the best of em . What about the 2nd xta ones .
Not sure what ones to get and in what order would you rate the big ones out of the years
Old 1st mod
2nd xta
3rd xtb
Just after a set that will last a long time and not break .
