Unfortunately I've had this problem to a degree. Paid an amount for an Audi in a very rare exclusive colour which from factory you have to pay more for...had a head on collision that was a foreign driver on my side...lost thousands because apparently the colour doesn't increase the value, I said well find me another that colour and it will be more expensive than the standard. He said he couldn't find another that colour...well there you go then but no had to take the loss.
All a scam insurance!

I think,
Once you have let them take the car away you are deemed to be in agreement with the settlement offer.
Which stinks !!

In reply to Post #9 "Yes I do understand it’s wear and tear part but at over £500 and 300 miles later it’s wrote cos of someone rear ending him."
I agree with you 100% it isn't fair but that's insurance for you. It's one of the biggest legal cons going IMO.
"I just feel bad for him cos he was keeping the car with no intention of selling it hence why he put a more premium brand tyre on instead of some budget tyre"
Me too. Hopefully a new car to focus on will help him to move on & put a smile back on his face.

Thanks all for the replies
I do think he is gonna lose the cost of the tyres he’s just put on

If I’d I’ve known before the car was taken away I’d have got the tyres swapped in hindsight
Thanks all

I suspect the alloy wheels themselves are part of the valuation but the tyres are a "wear & tear" item.
You could remove the tyres & flog them on fleabay as part worn. You're not going to get your money back though unfortunately + you'll have to put something back on the rims.
I would take it on the chin & move on TBH.
Is it worth the extra aggravation & potentially money spent & lost on legal fees etc? Not in my opinion, but the choice is obviously yours.
It's a crappy situation & I hope you're able to find a resolution, good luck.

Take the wheels of it and see if they still give you the same money…
IF
It makes no difference to the money you get back it shouldn’t make no difference to them if you remove the wheels.

In reply to Post #1 Unfortunately that's how it is. You won't get anything extra for things that are a basic running cost of driving.

How things have changed, he’s having to deal with
His insurance
Legal firm working for his insurance
Salvage company
He’s absolutely fed up with one thing and another trying to get sorted.
The main thing is that it’s not he’s fault

In reply to Post #1 You probably need to employ proper legal advise
See if the citizens advise can help or if you or anyone in your circle know a solicitor you could ask them.
Insurance are ruthless bar stewards who will try to get out of any claim if they can

Hi all
Anyone recently had a claim and can help
My son was rear ended and the cars been wrote off, a salvage company have given a valuation.
Fair enough, but we are trying to claim for the tyres he had just fitted at a cost of over £500 and only done about 300miles
They insist tyres have nothing to do with the valuation and it’s just part of maintaining your car
I could except it if it was he’s fault but it isn’t .
It isn’t as though he’s just put cheap budget tyres on either, said to his insurance what’s the point of putting expensive stuff on to maintain the car as tyres 12 month old would give same value
Any advice please
