What ever you use I have found it’s always better to de- shine the hooklink. I tend to use wood ash but anything slightly abrasive would do. Grass, soil etc.
Re the line - frog hair copolymer or fluorocarbon work well as hook link, both are relatively supple.

Thanks guys, will do Yonny
I bought a spool of the Gardner HD Floater in a lower 12lb, I can at least try that and the 15lb I have straight through. I thought they'd be up on top yesterday but that cold wind stopped that :-(

I hadn't even thought of that yet I use loads in coarse fishing...lol, thank you

EDIT, I just looked at it and the 15lb is 0.28 which to me is a bit thin, iirc my Fox stuff is the same (the newer Fox Zig is 0.3) I need a 15lb or good abraision resistance as there can be a lot of lillies in summer, I'm quite likely to get a small bs too for other places.

EDIT 2, might just try The Gardner Floater line in 12lb...hmm

I never used to use a dedicated floater line for hook link, just sensor in 12lb, somtimes aided with a bit of mucillin to keep it floating. Quite a while ago I bought Fox Zig Floater and had initial issues with it snapping for no good reason, eventually I put that down to UV but after being more careful with it I carried on using it, however,..
I tied up 8 hooklinks last week and didn't like what I saw coming off the spool, looking at the line it was glinting all over the place, and in places had nicks in the line, so I'm not happy with it.

What woud you rec as a good floater hooklink line, or do you use your mainline (if floater type ) straight through? For the 1st time I'm using a dedicated line, Gardner HD Floater, it's o.k but I have had it sinking.
