Diy jobbie...
Get some castor oil, and some of these brush pens from ebay.
Presharpen hooks and apply a very thin coat of oil, then store hooks so the oil can semi dry onto hook point. The sharpened bit fades to a dull black.
I have also retouched a hook and given it a quick wipe and then chucked it out and not had a problem.
No bad smell or taste... It really works.

In reply to Post #13 I appreciate this is an old post but i was wondering what people make of ZR after using it a few years? I use point shield from Gardner but im finding im bringing sharpened hooks back in after 2hours with corrosion still!
Can we not just use a clear lacquer paint pen from a vehicle touch up kit?

I got some from IB Hooks, fruity smell not tasted it though!! Rods were out for 48 hours at the weekend, not a sign of rust, they’d usually come back dull and black if left untreated or if my previously preferred method of Vaseline had worn off

In reply to Post #11 I used it the weekend and managed 5 bites on a tricky water. 3 being bream lol. All hooks had a light coating. One rod was out 24 hours the only rod not to go showed zero rust. So zero negatives from me on it

J precision Hooks are now selling this .
Word of caution for any one using this , there are NO labels or info on what the composition is ,is it safe ? It may just be a silicone type product or it may contain hazardous chemicals .

After reading about this on here I thought I would buy some and see for myself.
Well two weeks ago I started a little experiment. I put one untreated hand sharpened hook, one treated hand sharpened hook and one unsharpened hook into a pot of rain water.
The untreated hook started rusting almost straight away and has continued to develop more rust over the two weeks. The other two hooks show no sign of rust at all. It has convinced me and I shall be carrying it in my rig box from now on even though I only touch up hooks out of the packet I will be treating every hook.

This product sounds very interesting to me and I'd really love to order a bottle to try it out. Alas, on the webpage it says "EU orders please email for postage cost", but I can't find any email address? Is it me or ... ?

I have also recently bought a pot of this product and currently have some hooks in a pot of water to test if does indeed stop sharpened hooks rusting. It does have a strong aroma but considering the amount used I doubt it will be an issue, but as the manufacturer says it is an attractor added it might be a positive.

In reply to Post #1 This has been mentioned a few times on here, people seem to really rate it and their catch rates haven't suffered from using it

In reply to Post #1 I've only seen Joe Morgan promoting and commenting on this stuff at the end of a couple of recent Carp Angle videos on YouTube. I don't remember him specifically mentioning anything about the smell though. Other people use different products for protecting sharpened hooks. I suppose like all things in angling, it's a confidence thing. Would adding a few drops of a highly concentrated flavour help mask the smell or would it diminish it's effect?
Seems an expensive product though.

Just bought ZR Hooks to coat my self sharpened hooks and I’m very concerned about the smell of it. If anyone has had continued success when using this stuff I would like to know as I’m worried about using it. Thanks in advance for reply’s because it’s the main reason I joined this forum. I’m not the type of angler who asks questions on the bank so I’m letting loose on here. Hope I ain’t a pain in the arse people. Thanks
