Moved to Other Species as I don't think the area was around when this post was originally created

As a regular Piker for years I only fish during the Pike season 1st October to 15th March for me that's the official season and my clubs. But I do see those that fish in the summer months! . And I agree that there are plenty of planks out there who haven't a clue as to fish safely/correctly. It makes my blood boil when I've come across a dead pike with the remains of a rusty trace in its guts, because example an idiot is on his mobile or wandering the bank instead of watching his rods.
My club has both carpers and pikers If I see the bivvies up along a stretch of bank I will head off further. And thanks to two carpers last pike season I had help with my PB after slipping down a very wet muddy bank. Oh and finally I have watched spodding taking place hourly.

And using blooming great single hooks on lures.
I have seen a very dead pike that hit a lure hard, with the hook coming out of the top of the skull.

I know it sounds crazy, but size 2 or 4 trebles are actually safer for the fish than size 1/0 or bigger (!) singles, on lures or deadbait rigs.

I was actually pike fishing in the winter before I got into carp fishing, so learnt as a teenager how to handle them properly. If anything I end up with my blood on my hands from raker rash when I unhook them.
Bite indication and hitting runs early is knowledge that has improved since the 1980's, as has using an uptrace.

The few 20lb pike I have caught mean far more to me than any 20lb or even 30lb carp.

Can’t deny it, magnificent creatures and a 30 plus is very special indeed these days, biggest I’ve seen on the bank was 24lber a mate had, it was thin as well, amazing creature

Emphasis on creature!

What’s annoying as more of a predator angler than a carper is the number of carpers who fish for pike in the winter and haven’t got a clue what they are doing and how to handle them properly.

Th sole reason I do t fish for them, one I’m not too keen on them with the teeth and all

Two, never really bothered with them so don’t know how to handle them properly and I would be more concerned about doing them some damage.

Over the years like you mention I have seen a lot of clowns fishing for them who have not got a ****ing clue, pulling their internals out and pushing them back in cause they can etc. I have found a lot of dead pike over the years whilst walking waters looking for fish or having a nosy and it’s predominantly after pike fishing has started

The modern instant carper brigade turn into the instant piker which leads to deep hooking or the new fashion been the lure angler who haven’t got a clue how to take trebles out with forceps

Very positive viewpoint, I commend you for that. I guess much like a big pit I am fishing this year for carp, where they have sailing on it at weekends - always seems to fish better on or shortly after the boats have been out.

Can't say for sure but my chosen two waters have seen a large influx of Pike anglers and I feel they have kept the Carp moving with their constant casting and for me if they are using up energy having to move then it must be replaced at some point even if they maybe a little skittish from the casting etc.

Personally I'd rather see a Pike angler in a swim I've been working on than another carper.

What do you expect when someone posts such stupid comments on a public forum? Tongue in cheek or not. No one is getting their kickers in a twist; just this perfectly demonstrates the poor attitude of some (not all) carp anglers you meet on the bank.

Like most are saying, sadly (and it is sad) you come across far more idiots carp fishing than you will after any other species, but then more people fish for carp than any other species I suppose. Just walk round most club waters and it doesn't take long to spot them... the only thing worse, is when THEY start pike fishing Nothing kills good pike fishing better than a bunch of carp anglers fishing dead baits.

I can recall covering this in an article I wrote for Pike and Predators magazine - where I'd been subjected to a load of abuse whilst fishing a certain Essex reservoir for pike, even though I spent almost all my time fishing over 200 yards from the bank where the idiots were bivved up. A number of people, after reading it, contacted me to say they'd experienced similar situations, just because they weren't carp fishing. Like many will say, it just gives carp anglers a bad name

Since the late 60's, the only time a pike angler has "Pi***d" me off was I was once fishing in a secluded peg and whilst I was watching my rods, a plug suddenly appeared from my right and went right over my three lines, dropped in the water about a yard passed my rods and then began to be retrieved and then snagged all my three lines.

But, as for carp anglers, it can be virtually every trip and it seems to be getting worse.
