In reply to Post #11 We fished in sept and had the same experience just 28 fish for the group. Looking at catch reports of the last year it really hasn’t fished well! Maybe just one of those seasons as last year had much bigger hits. The chalet / pergola is very run down now and so are the swims so won’t be returning for a while

Sorry to dig up this thread but does anyone know what happened to this lake? Just got back from a week here with a friend who's fished it for 10 years and has had 50 fish in a week this time of year on multiple occasions. He blanked and I only had 1, whilst conditions were not favourable, looking into the catch reports over the years there seems to have been a significant reduction in caught fish in 2024, makes me think stock has changed without customers being made aware either by nature or design. This is not sour grapes from a tough week just want to raise awareness as its still positioned as a venue to come and get some action.

I fished Margot a couple of times approx 10/12 years ago, flat boittomed lake used as a fish holdind lake/duck shoot depth around 4 foot in the middle. best results I had was carefully walking out with hookbait and small bucket of bait and prodding stick and placing baits by hand on firm spots. Do remember Coypu were a nightmare with baits being picked up during the dark hours!!
Hope this helps.

In reply to Post #5 Don't know how right the information was at the time but the last time I heard his name mentioned he had moved or gone to work in South Africa or something like that David but that was quite a few years ago now, sorry OP off thread carry on as you were.

Fished it last September.
No need for a baitboat if you don’t want to use one.
Not really anywhere on the lake you cant cast to.
Rowing boats provided on the lake if you want to use them.
Take a life jacket tho as not provided.

In reply to Post #1 Hi fished it about 6 years ago. There was 3 rowing boats on the lake
Fished next to the hut. Fished to the middle on some hard ground
When you rowed it was in line with the island one side and the double peg on the other
It was about 36 wraps and to far for me. Fish came to tigers
There was a lot of chat but found that the mainline spicy crab stayed on the hook overnight and caught
Also fished one rod at 15 wraps aimed at the double peg and caught later in the week
The pegs around the island did well but a lot of grass carp - 2 over 50
The slowest pegs seemed to be on the far bank opposite me where it was very shallow for the first 100 yards
Had 29 fish to 46 lbs. and as a group of 8 we had over 150 fish
Most came to tigers fished over hemp and maize which the owners supplied.

In reply to Post #1 I fished Margot about 10 years ago, it was august and I had the lake to myself. No one had fished it the previous week.
Think the fish wanted a feed. I had 37 runs and landed 33 carp to 37lb.
caught nothing during the day just too hot. I did take a bait boat but did not use. Most of the fish came from about 60 yards on a large baited area of boilies and particles.
Best night was 10 fish had to pull rods in at 6 am just had enough.
Probably changed since I was there but certainly a good trip for me

In reply to Post #1 Alright mate went there years ago cracking water.
Fish peg 3 or 8 and cast to the middle.
Just use a throwing stick and just fish boilies.
Couple of the lads used particles and did alright but the better fish came to a spread of boilies.

Hi all. I'm booked to fish Margot lake, part of the Bigot complex this spring. From my research it seems that a lot of the anglers use baitboats there, I don't own a baitboat as was wondering whether anyone else had been there and had any info if they are necessary or whether spombing/throwing sticks are just as viable? Thanks.
