Very hit and miss with the bass mate, if they're about, you can usually nick one or two on spinners etc.
Around about this time of year, they're often fairly close in. We normally do ok, amongst the rocks etc, a couple of years ago, we were weaving spinners and lures through rocky areas, and did well.

I found evenings good, or very early morning, a bit like carp fishing. Often if i'm away, i might take a couple of light carp rods etc, and use one for bass spinning. You can have them further out with a beach caster etc.

One thing i would say, use a proper salt water reel, or a cheapy freshwater reel, as i've buggered a few using them in the brine
