Don't worry about different flavours. Flavours catch more anglers than fish

If you are new to carp baits you must understand that just because somebody is photographed with a big fish saying it was caught on bait X, it may have been or quite possibly wasn't.

Flavours really are there to make it smell nice to us. "Cor, that smells dead carpy" is oft heard amongst the clan but what does a live freshwater shrimp, caddis, snail or seed from a tree smell like - underwater and to a carp? Yes, some flavours work well but good base mixes will catch just as well. The flavour just gives it a signature enabling you to switch it about if bites dry up.

Personally, I've been using Quest Baits for a few years and have done very well on them (but buy other makes when the deal is right). Shelf life at £6.50 a kilo and a good range to try if needed. Having said that, I've done very well with a completely different flavoured wafter from another company fished over a bed of their boilies.

Don't get too hung up on a single make or flavour. Carp eat pretty much most of them. If you do get a few results on one type/flavour/size/colour.... stick to it because you will be using the best hook bait of all - confidence

If I had to use any high impact mainline shelf life, my choice would be high leakage pineapple or 50/50 Fruitella mate.

If you are just doing days in winter, the most important choice is the water, make sure you are fishing a water with a solid winter rep. I would use the cell in very small amounts and experiment later in spring. Sorry but that's my thinking.

As James has said below, get 10-20kg of freezer bait if you have the space. Most companies will deliver for around £6-7 per kg.

I use ABS Hydra-K and can't recommend it enough. Any ABS bait will catch if fished effectively.

If you insist on using Mainline Baits , i would run with The Cell mate , still catches a hell of a lot of fish.

Get a decent freezer bait mate. Probably half the prize per kg and twice as good if you buy 10 plus kilos.

Im not totally new to fishing carp i have done many sessions on 3 rods, im just still learning more about baits and what companies to go for and that i mainly fish bottom baits just getting into trial and error tbh. Yes that is good advice find the fish as at start i use to just prebait 1 area without locating the fish

If you're new to carp fishing you shouldn't be fishing three rods imo. Concentrate fishing one then two rods effectively first. Location of fish and good angling is more important than your choice of bait.
