There were huge beds of it on the wandle, but it seems to have calmed down in the last couple of years.
I think because of the flood risk to a very built up area the ea have to keep it in check, plus lots of anglers clearing swims regularly has stopped it getting as dense as it was.
Trouble is, any cuttings left to flow down the river will get stuck somewhere and take hold until the whole river is infested.

On the plus side, it seemed to create a bumper year or two for the roach population, and the cormorant population looks lower in the last couple of years

I tried to do a time lapse video a couple of years back to show how fast it grew but someone nicked the camera

Just seen how bad it's got on the Colne, after reading up on it more, after reading this thread. It really is bloody awful stuff isn't it?
I don't ever remember it being that bad before?
So, obviously the authorities are trying to deal with it?

The rivers and waterways, used to be ticking along nicely, a good stock of mostly healthy fish, and other bird and wildlife.
Now the otters have, or are, decimating all the fish, and much of the birdlife, and protected voles and other protected species. Then there's the ongoing problem, with certain nationalities, stealing or hunting our coarse fish for the table, despite for a long time now, being aware that it's illegal to do so?

Then if there are any decent stretches left, that hold enough stock, to make it viable for an angler to fish, he or she, could well find that it's covered in Pennywort?
It's a nightmare for anglers, especially boat anglers, and also a concern for boat traffic. I would also imagine, this stuff has a detrimental effect on various types of wildlife, as it leaves nesting animals with no security?

All these problems are real, and they're going on as we speak, yet whenever the EA or other authorities are alerted to these and other issuses, they usually reply that they have neither the funds or manpower to deal with such things. Obviously this makes it hard for anglers to accept, especially when we're paying in licence, and other fees, to try and safeguard our fishing??

So, as usual, it's all about the money, or lack of it, and so to rub a lot of salt into a big wound, they decide to smack a railway right through the country, ruining lots of lakes, rivers, canals and beautiful countryside, which is costing billions, and was already well over budget by time it had started???

It will absolutely slaughter parts of the Colne Valley, including the most beautiful spots, that were otherwise ubspoilt for years, and also many, many other pretty, and up until now, protected parts of our little country. And for what? Just so people can get too, and from London and Birmingham fifteen minutes quicker???
Or, is it because we're way over crowded, and they believe people will ditch their cars and take the train?

It's no good to me, or my job, there are no stops, it's just London to Birmingham and vice versa. Where does the money come from China?

Surely, these kind of things should be voted on?

Anyway, it's all getting ruined and quite quickly round here

Dean, Nick and Roman, I've been to Cambridge, Peterborough, and The Fens etc, quite a bit years ago, as i had some family there at one time, and done a bit of fishing, including the Fens.
It's been a while but, i always remember it being a really beautiful and unique place. Is it still like that, or have they ruined it too?

I remember when i first saw the Fens, it freaked me out a bit, all the vast amount of (flat) land and surroundings. I found it a bit spooky but, was drawn to it, if that makes sense?
I caught my first ever Zander there, and often, some nice pike.
I hope it's as unspoilt as i remember it, apart from the ****ty Pennywort?

It's ruined so many stretches of the Colne . There's miles of river where you can barely see any water.
