I think most of these high end rod manufacturers thought these retractable would be a flash in the pan

Similar to me. I used retractable rods as a kid, cheap crap

Well, I’ve changed my views, just done a week in France on a very hard weedy water, only had two carp but i also caught 3 near 50lb sturgeon and they do fight, couple this with heavy weed and I cannot believe how my 3 1/4tc scopes held out, thought I would bust them, full pressure, rod bent double, drag set near the lines limit and MASSIVE balls of weed when retrieving rigs. Held up brilliantly, tbh, totally shocked by their performance, unbelievable

Still have my 12 footers but the 10 foots are superb for boat work and travelling due to the pack down size. Over 100 yds casting I think you will be left wanting though

And a shout out for the Ultegra 5500 which I used with them, took some proper hammer, solid for the price

So I went for the 10ft 31/4 telios.
Lovely rods. Not over powerful I have slung a lead with out a rig over 100yards, but that was just to see what they were capable of.
Currently teamed with ss3000.
Had a few smaller fish on them, and they really do play well.
I had them built with 50mm rings, now I wish I had gone for 40’s. Maybe next year get them re-rung

I think most of these high end rod manufacturers thought these retractable would be a flash in the pan. But there beginning to learn that they are here to stay and don't want to be left behind
Wouldn't be surprised if Century are not in the process of bringing a range out. Like Free spirit and Harrison have recently done.

See that Free Spirit have joined the retractable market, down to 2.25tc.

Anyone seen them?

Popped in to Johnson Ross today and had a look at the Harrison Telos rods.

They only had the 10ft 3 1/4lb TC version but they were pretty impressive.

The blank was exactly what you'd expect from Harrison, slim and very high quality.
The rod felt light, even with the Alps reel seat and lined rings.
Fairly beefy test curve but short rods can be in higher test curves.
Didn't really notice the tip section being a different weave.

I would like to see a set without the green whippings as they were distracting.

Would like to try the 2 3/4lb TC and 3lb TC versions.

I had some 3lb Sonik Xtractors few years back but didnt really like them so returned them (i preferred my 8ft ESP Stalker rods)

..... but i wanted something in a lighter test curve last year, ideally with a similar packdown size, and so took a chance on a set of Sonik Xtractor + Avon 1.75lb rods and was very impressed, and so added the 1.5lb twin tips and 1.25lb float rods (3 rods in each test curve) ... All are retractable, cost peanuts and cover a whole host of situations and will hopefully see me thru to end of my fishing days.

If i wanted to try a higher test curve again i still think i would go for ESP Quickdraw 4K but I am using heavier test curve rods less and less at the moment! .... I will probably wait and see if a set come up in classifieds

Brought a set of the Fox ti's that are 8-10 foot. Really happy with them and saved me having to get a set of telos built up. Being 8 foot as well they actually have a bung that stops them rattling in transport, and they have titanium rings with a liner so no braid cutting in like my old scopes had.
