I had to turn it off couldn't listen to Ali or the others anymore and when he calls out Danny Fairbrass for not doing enough to protect and promote the sport that is a joke haven't seen OMC fencing lakes for nothing recently.

I had a good think and marshalled my thoughts before posting. I don’t do much fishing media, preferring to actually fish than to watching it. So before going further I have to say other than Ian Chilcott whom I know via his writings in Carpworld and Ali Hamedi because you can’t avoid him, I have no idea who the other 3 are.

So thoughts. What an absolute pile of ********. With the exception of Chilcott everyone else seemed to think that without angling ‘stars’ pushing out media content that fishing will die. Well I first went fishing in 1962 aged 6. From the age of ten to through my teenage years I went fishing every weekend, bank holiday and school holiday. Once working but still single I still fished weekends regularly. In the mid 70’s official government figure put the number of PARTICIPATING anglers at 7.5 million. So how did that happen? The only angling media available to the vast majority was the Angling Times and Anglers mail. Specialised stuff like Peter Mohan’s efforts were kitchen table publications and very niche.

The participants in the blog then conflated two issues. One was the instant gratification aspect. They said people wanted to join the hobby ( it is a hobby not a sport) and instantly want to catch a 30 or 40 pounder to put it on social media for likes. They were totally oblivious to the fact that THEY were the people who are solely responsible for this. Are they so totally up their own arses that they don’t see this? The other point raised was without media exposure from the tackle companies youngsters won’t know about the sport, they then with breath taking arrogance then mix this up with bottom line profits. What in effect they were saying, especially Hamedi was they need the youngsters hooked so they would buy their gear from them and enhance their bottom line profits. Hamedi spoke of sales techniques and university degrees but this approach is straight out of the drug dealers playbook.

Finally if Hamedi was a footballer the stats would show he dominated the field with 85% possession. He never shut up, talking over the others, lots of personal big ups for himself. I was determined to watch to the end but it was difficult. I know times change, I know technology marches on but it also has downsides and all of those with one exception were too blinkered to see this. They were complaining about things that they had caused and couldn’t separate need from greed. Any talk about doing free events from the tackle companies is purely patching up the damage they have caused.

Whenever they say 'carp fishing' replace it with my bottom line or the bottom line of the hand that feeds me

from what I have seen it also felt more like it was a plea to maintain business than fishing legitimately being threatened.

It isn't under threat, there's more carp anglers on the bank than ever. There are more lakes than ever. There are more packed out £750 a year club lakes than ever. There are more bait companies and tackle companies than ever. It's never been more affordable than ever before.

The bigger companies just have more competition than ever, because people are starting the realise you can't rinse people for old rope, and that hurts a select few in the pocket.

It felt to me like their concern was more about whether or not they would be able to continue to sell Fox and OMC tackle to kids through their social media once the ban came in.

They are all only out to make money.

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are regarding the discussion on the Fox All-Ways Carp Fishing Podcast as to whether carp fishing is under threat?
