I dry mine out until like dried peas, then slowly rehydrate over several small glugs and absorption times until just needle friendly, indicating that moisture has fully penetrated.
I can then cut one in half with a Stanley knife to see the inner and check that the good stuff has soaked right through.
You cannot fully dry when there is rainy days and high humidity. I've never used any special kit to help force dry. Just a mushroom tray and the odd daily shake.
Never used any preservatives of any sort.

In reply to Post #1 a), yes, provided suitably dried will last you all summer. I use 10ml per egg and air dry for 3-4 days with all my hookbaits.
No idea about b I'm afraid, never used it.

I made a few 1/2 egg mixes pop-ups with CCMoores pop-up mix.
A mixture of hi-vis 12's and a few 14's & 16's. Fluoro coot teasers
And some waftery baits to be glugged ..I would have usually made these with cork and base.
All came out satisfactory with more than enough buoyancy for my days only club water.
Anyway I couldn't find any potassium sorbate in the high street- Wilckinsons used have brewing shelf, the home-brew shop has gone too. None in Boots or the pharmacy.
I used MPG at 15ml per egg, never used it before as I'd previously made cork balls or dusters.
Then I searched he forum and found that citric acid can be used as a preservative too.
Typically I have about half a kilo of food grade in the cupboard.
I''ve resisted adding flavourings leaving all but the waftery jobs plain.
I won't be taking them all out, just a pot of mixed colours.
a) suitably dried they should remain mould free for the summers fishing?
b) besides acidity..any advantage to a splash of citric acid solution in the pot? Or am I over thinking?
