It sounds to me like your closing the knot too early, if you close it too far above the eye your basically strangling/stretching the line from that point to the eye, either up the line or by pulling the line through the eye to the knot under pressure.

Try closing it down gently until nearly at the eye before tightening fully 👍

Trilene knot

Grinner is a strangulation knot, ok for braided hooklengths etc, but not ideal for mono.

I’ve just gone back to using mono for the first time in years.
I’m normally a flourocarbon fan but due to the range I’m fishing had to switch back to mono. But when tying a knot to a swivel the line keeps pig tailing, I’ve tried a palomar and a 5 turn grinner. I’m currently using 18lb Syncro is this known for this or any help to avoid this please?
