You're not wrong mate, but isn't that just the way it is now, across the board , with everything.....just waiting for shrinkflation in fisheries

Like you, that would be a treat for me, not a norm, and I'd expect the best for that money.

I don't even baulk at 2k for a exclusive with chalet in France nowadays, £300 a day, nuts, but to be fair when I 1st started going in the early 0's we were paying £1600 drive and survive...if that was extrapolated to todays costs
Maybe that's the point with regards the likes of RH..hmm

Fair enough but you said it's market forces and I have to totally disagree regards RH fisheries.

Have a look at the work they're putting into Patshull Park, it's on youtube, the initial outlay must be massive. Drain down, net, re sculpt (plant machinery) new pegs, land scaping (plant hire) re stocking, new clubhouse and everything that goes along with that, showers, kitchens, bait storage, new paths around the lake etc etc.
All the labour in doing that, paying rent and that's before even starting to take a penny.

Even when ready to open there will be a bailiffs wage, electricity, replacing stock, machinery expenses, aeration maybe and on and on it goes (bit like me...lol)

I've no idea how much they're putting into that, but even at £50 a day ticket and 100 pegs, that's 5k a day, 35k a week, 140k/month. Going to take them a long time to recoup.

Don't get me wrong, they'll make a tidy profit once past start up costs...and...should that be begrudged?

I agree, it's not a fair comparison given what's involved but it does put into perspective £80 a day or whatever...

My view is that fishing should be fully inclusive, which is where the local club venues come in - the grass roots and lifeblood of the passtime.

Spot on... It's a hard way to earn a living but many enjoy the lifestyle... Regards the crew, a decent tip at the end is good etiquette and not doing so is really poor form... That's just the way it is and it helps to top up wages...

I don't think it's fair to compare a boat, crew, fuel, maintenance, harbour fees etc. Some of those prices are justified but it's not the same as plonking yourself in a swim and casting out.
Yes high price fisheries have their own expenses, I accept that but I reckon they are making more than small boat businesses
Having said that if I owned a fisheries then perhaps I'd have a different attitude

The 900 was boat exclusive and an 8 hour day.
I didn't think it was too bad and budgeted around 1100
Then I will have a week in a caravan or something like that
If I can get a sun 9£ a day holiday lol

Dont forget the “tip”
That usually gets given at the end of the day as well lol

I have my own boat I could take and trundle down with.
Don’t know the area or places to either navigate or fish at so it pays to charter.

I just think people are in denial about the 'real' cost of things nowadays, it's not a simple as market forces. The £900 quoted, not much profit in that for a skipper and if there's a few of you it's a good deal.

Just think, in the U.K, crew of 3, minimum wage £12.61, 10 hour day maybe more, that's £366. Fairly sure the skipper will want to be earning more than that with all their experience. That leaves £544 for all the other things you mentioned, not a great profit margin, espesh if hitting marks far out re fuel.

Before the Carp Society took it over, at certain times of the year Ashmead was £90 for 24 hrs. It is an amazing, unique venue with some superb target stock. Worth every penny. I appreciate not everybody can afford that.

It's around that globally for any decent outfit, maybe within a couple of hundred anyhow... Paying less is almost always a false economy with big game fishing - it's all about the skipper and his team, the skill, knowledge and experience to get you your fish. Then chuck the fuel, boat maintenance, harbour fees etc etc on top. Not cheap but as a three/four share between mates it's not too bad... Good luck and enjoy.

I think you are right, however I think we are getting near the tipping point.

I'm starting to see more and more syndicates looking for members and this is for premium waters with big fish but at a steep price.

I have been quoted 900 a day for a whole boat charter to go shark fishing
Told them I wasn’t interested in tuna so bought it down a little lol
So pretty close 👍

By the responses you are getting some say it isn't that bad.
That's the problem in my opinion, as long as people accept high prices then price rises will continue until they hit a price point where the amount of people starts to fall.

It does sound very expensive but compared to some other branches of our sport it is actually quite cheap.
Avington trout fishery £75 for 8hrs catch and release, £110-130 if you want to take home and eat a fat slob that tastes of high oil pellets. + double rod license
A day out on any half decent charter boat probably £80
A prime day on a Scottish river salmon fishing £250-400

I did one 72hr trip on M1 (slept bankside on the no fishing night) and one 36hr trip on M2 last year and blanked both times.

Add to that 7 hour round trips for each, I've decided to get an extra ticket or two this year instead of wasting more money only to blank again.

My decision isn't specific to RH Fisheries but towards all these day ticket waters with big fish in them that get hammered 24x7.

Caught a 12lb river carp on Sunday on a ticket that cost me £35 and has only just started (first trip) I didn't see another angler or spomb all day long and it was bliss 👌.

To RH's credit, the staff and facilities were excellent as was the take away delivery service 👍

Given the stamp of the fish I don't think it's that bad. You'd be hard pressed to go after similar quarry unless of a few K syndi or abroad...is it just me?

I'm not saying I'd spend it, just comaprison to trips abroad etc, makes it look cheap!

I had a look earlier in the year, put my dates in the basket, and then like you realised it’s £80 for 36 hours so didn’t book it. I know it has some amazing fish, and facilities, but that’s just too much for me.

So I've just been looking at rh prices for this year as fancy a dabble 80 quid for 36 hours is crazy for 30 quid more you can fish a year on a club up north that's insanity
