Very similar to what the other chap said about the rods I'm thinking about. Re the Accurix, if only I could have persuaded them to make a 3.5lb TC set, that would have been my choice, the 3lb felt lovely.

Interesting you should say that, I really disliked my flexes, aviators in general actually, almost like you're not actually connected to the end tackle / fish. the accurix 3lb I found to be a superior blank in comparison but I guess very different end customers

I can't say, as I can't find my post, but as a rod builder you might be able to guess which one I'm talking about...no?

Edit, if it's not the Flex it detracts from the thread imo.
Edit 2, The reason I suggested it, was the feel of the rod to the original poster being my experience with a rod at the factory, coincidence maybe?

No way is that blank the flex one of the best balanced rods you can get.

Can't you just get a suitable reel seat fitted instead?

Have fun with your "Flexes"! I am sure I will have fun with mine.
Will have to really fish them before I can finally comment on how they really are.
Will comment then hopefully in a few weeks when the lakes are open again. Could also be Mid-March if I am unlucky till they open.

For me the 40mm are correct for these blanks.

Built mine up Hipster stlye with olive duplon, Chiltern rods reel seat Free Spirit style, Fuji Sic, dark grey windings tipped black. Nice.

Albeit my Daiwas Tournaments 5000 BE dont fit the reel seat, so its Shimanos.

I have a pair of Flex currently being made up.

Was looking for a "Players" rod
Actually the Flex wasnt my first choice but the reviews on here and a good few convos with Harrison and Calvin pushed me over the edge.

I spoke to Harrison they do list it as a "Through Action" but what kind of effort would be needed for that action to kick in. There is a lot of power in the bottom half of the blank.

They recover ssssoooo soooo quickly and made my old Armalites look and feel like a whip in comparison.

Deffo feels like a nice softer tip so hopefully no hook pulls at the net which i was worried about
While i dont fish at bigger distances wanted something that was happy with PVA bags and putting me in control when turning a fish from snags.
Also something that could handle a slimy cat should i ever be so inclined !

I dont lie casting "The Beans" all feels too forced.
Cant wait to get them out there and start throwing a lead around !

Super positive reviews everywhere.

I love my Flex, I had custom build with 50mm butt and the rest single leg Kegan’s
I find they cast very accurately.
I mostly use bags either solid or mesh and find them very accurate up to 15 wraps
I don’t like casting bags further than that with them.
They are fantastic for playing big fish.

Oh you haven't used them yet? That's really the only way you see what they do. Bending them without line running through the rings they will bend in an unnatural way

I have Fuji Sics the lower version. First two guides in two leg, the others single leg, so these shouldnt stiffen up the rod too much. As regards to guide spacing I dont think thats the culprit in this case.
When I unpacked the blanks and bent them I immediately had doubts if they sent me the right blanks. Sure they were inscribed correctly but to me the description the website and here just didnt match what I had in hand then and now.

Guess I will just go ahead and fish them and have fun...no way back :-).

Yeah of course factory build will be the same, but obviously customs not so. What rings have you got? Single or double leg? Even the spacings of the rings will make a difference.

I use them. I would agree with this. I am no caster but there is some backbone when you need it. Moreover I think for playing fish (which is the main reason I got them), they are absolutely perfect. A real pleasure to use.

They are ringed pretty standard for a rod with around 3lbs test curve: 6 rings plus tip and a 40mm on the butt section.
I would assume that most of the Aviator flex rods are built similarly e.g. the ones that are sold made by Harrison.

I don't believe it was the flex. I have them, I'm not a bad caster but far from an excellent one. And I can cast them nicely, they have a very nice feel to them. I wouldn't say the were a fast tip, but certainly not a soft tip either. For me they are a nice "in the middle" kind of action.

Only thing I wonder is that they feel like a - nice - very standard semi-parabolic taper with stiffer butt section and softer tip.

There was a rod at the Harrison factory when I looked at several blanks that felt confused, just like you say, like the top didn't belong to the bottom, I wondered if it was a compromise (a good one though otherwise it wouldn't have been released).
I commented on the forum about it and several other members said the same thing, one said they found it very hard to judge just when to release on the cast as the tip gave very vaque feel, I'm sure they sold theirs. Another very experienced & respected person said the same thing, they shall remain namless.

The only thing, I can't remember if it was the flex, but it's ringing a bell. A lot of the forum posts don't show from 2020 or before due to a server issue, and since then they've got glowing reviews. As I was looking for a comparison rod I can only imagine it was the flex as I know the Aviator felt too stiff so it won't be the plus either. Maybe it'll jog someones memory what I've typed and they can confirm their thoughts.

How have you had them made? Different rings and ringing patterns can make the same blanks feel very different

Hello all,
a friend has just finished a pair of Harrison Aviator flex rods for me. I bought the blanks after the very positive reviews here in the forum.
They will be my go to rods for the forthcoming years.

Only thing I wonder is that they feel like a - nice - very standard semi-parabolic taper with stiffer butt section and softer tip.
And not really like the special taper with stiffer tip and softer butt section as it was described here and on the Harrison website.

Dont get me wrong they are nice rods but I just wonder if they mixed up the blanks maybe at rodhouse.fr where I bought the rods?
They just feel so very standard semi-parabolic to me.

No way of finding out I guess but I would like to hear your opinions as Aviator flex users if its a semi-parabolic to you too?

Thank you and have a great 2026!
