Went back to using pellet this season as i just couldnt be bothered with faffing around with particles anymore. Have done pretty well using various sizes of pellet, groundbait and whole and half boilies and a bait soak.

In reply to Post #4 To me crumb is not the same as dust or traditional groundbaits and it won't drift away or be as easily disturbed as regular groundbaits. There are 'heavy' groundbaits (DNA Cray etc) which might act in a similar way as crumb, but if the crumb is 2-3mm+, even then I can't see it.
If I was dealing with a good undertow I'd alter the size of the crumb to suit, if I knew it was happening which is probably unlikely.

In reply to Post #1 Surely boilie crumb is just ground bait by another name ? Don’t waste your money buying boilies then grind them to dust only for most of it to drift away from the spot you think you’re baiting on the undertow. Madness.
Have a look at the AA Baits range of groundbaits, they do some awesome products that work out around £3.50 a kilo buying 10kg plus. Dampen them down with a hydro and a bit of oil diluted down with some water the night before. Add a few handfuls of small pellets. Bingo.

Crumbed up boilies go a really long way
Even 1 crumbed boilie spreads a reasonable distance so gives a good “flavour” spread.
One of my favourites is crumb up 3 boilies and put it in a pva stocking and thread it on the hooklength and pull the hook back in

I see using boilie crumb as a way of mimicking a bed of bait that has started breaking down on the lake bed, particularly when I suspect the fish are wary of round balls,
There's also the bonus of scent releasing quicker through the water column.
I'll also quite often mix some pellets in with the crumb but again I'll usually scald these first before mixing for the same reasons.

What are your thoughts on pellets vs boilie crumb?
Pellets are cheap and can be flavoured / tweaked easily to provide added attraction. I imagine the bait companies will want us to overlook pellets as it's not where they make their money.
Crumb is far more expensive if you simply grind down boilies. Yes they taste similar to boilies but does that really matter or make a difference once crumbed especially considering a large % of boilie crumb is just fillers / binders to make boilies in the first place. Personally I think we've been brainwashed to use expensive crumb.
I'm now looking to go down the tweaked / flavoured pellet route but welcome your views.
