Agree with RKB & Zack - no need to pre-make bags and prefer to make 2x per rod being used on the bank and prior to chucking out.
Premade solid bags can and will lose their compactness / shape after 24hrs and go saggy . . Mesh bags def take on oils and you could be sitting over an un-melted bag for hours without ever knowing . . .
So unless I was fishing an overstocked nod water / match where I knew constant re-casting small bags was going to be likely, I'd always make them on the day and as required . . .

I have learnt my lesson over the years about making up too many Stick Mixes in a session and then keeping them for the next session. As a rule, I will make up 6, 3 of those will be cast out, and 3 in reserve, then when I cast out again, I will make up another 3 and towards the end of the session for my last cast, I will use the last 3 I held in reserve. This way I don't have to keep them. I keep reserve of 3 just in case I get a run during an unsociable hour and also any other time I can get my rod back out quick on the spot in case there is more fish feeding.
There is nothing worse than to wind in and find half a stick mix still on or a big gloopy mess and usually its when you have used oily pellets or added oil etc and I think some glugs can also prevent the braekdown of PVA
A friend of mine, a few years back, turned up, cast out and about 30 minutes later got a run, when he landed the fish, the stick mix was still on intact and that was the result from keeping a stick mix from the week before.

Using one of the solid bag kits (I use Fox), really does negate the need to make them in advance. I can get one done in a minute on the bank.

If your pellets are oily then that can affect the breakdown of the PVA (longer to breakdown), more so over time.
Also the buoyancy of the hookbait (wafters/pop ups) can be affected by the pellets drawing moisture from it, over time. Therefore making it more buoyant. I try to avoid having bags sat made up for longer than a week.
If you are going to have them made up for ages then less oily pellets and artificial hookbaits are the one.

I've never pretied solid bags, but quite often I will pretie a few sticks and the ingredients used can affect breakdown times considerably. I'd imagine it would be similar with solid bags.
Knowing this can be used to your advantage when you want a slower breakdown.

For the guys who pre-tie solid PVA bags before a session. How long would you let the pre-tied bags sit in your bucket and still feel comfortable using them? Have you found the breakdown time changes the longer they sit?
