In reply to Post #22 Nowadays, I tend to use more family friendly aromas for my bait making. In the early 90's Rod's Monster Crab and Shellfish Sense Appeal were my go to additives. If this is indeed the
real McCoy, then I might just have to just upgrade my extractor fan and have a trip down memory lane 🙂. I used to use Rod's Sense Appeal at 10 ml as per the label, and the crab at just 1 ml in a 7 egg mix. This worked really well , even in a basic cat food boilie. I'm gonna give this stuff a try but if it's a winner, a cheaper bulk option would be good. Around £ 100 a litre is a bit much if you want to get some bait in.

Anything like that from Marcus will be spot on.

In reply to Post #22 Not tried the Mirage sense appeals but have used another of his products and its spot on and the best I have used in 10+ years.
Due to his previous business dealings I suspect he can't call them 'Sense Appeal' but his description on his Facebook page read like the original I used 20 odd years ago. He has regular, spice, liver and shellfish versions. If anyone has tried them it would be good if they can share their thoughts on them.

In reply to Post #22 I said similar as it seems a bone of contention if what it sold as sense appeals now is the same as what was sold as sense appeal a number of years ago.

In reply to Post #21 Simular.. probably the same. Marcus bottles sense appeal for the Rod Hutchinson brand.

In reply to Post #20 Have a look at the mirage site. He's released a new range that look at least similar to the original sense appeals

In reply to Post #19 Cheers for the replies
I've also done some reading up on older threads asking the same question
Seems like there are some liverade products available
Sounds like the one that was used in carp bait may not be available due to EU legislation
Wonder what ingredient X is that made the difference?

In reply to Post #17 Might be worth having a look at the stuff produced by the animal feed industry. If you Google Liverade it comes back with a powdered and liquid hoarse feed supplement. You'll also find simular pet food supplements for dogs etc.. might be what your looking for?

In reply to Post #16 Thats a shame
Sounds like there are no modern alternatives to sense appeals then

In reply to Post #15 The Catchit Labs version of SSA is nothing like the Nash version I used for years unfortunately.
In reply to Post #14 Isn't the person behind Catch it labs and ex Nash employee?
Heard good things about their flavours. Maybe their sense appeals are going to be the closest version to the OGs
Was liverade just a liquid liver product? Was it available from non angling sources aswell?

In reply to Post #13 I thought S@O was my favourite flavour, but the monster crab and Sense Appeal Dan from Biological baits uses in his Robin Red popups smells so good, and and been doing so well for me. Such a great flavour.

In reply to Post #11 The original Sense Appeal was I think Hutchinson and I don't think that was Liverade, neither wash his Shellfish SA.
The Nash Shellfish Concentrate SA was liverade, a product that is no longer available. Which is a great shame.

Personally I don't think these modern day versions are worth the hassle, the original's always seemed to have the x factor, I found it better to move on.
The original Bream Attractor came in a glass bottle and was something else!

The origional sense appeal ( liverade ) was i believe sourced from the animal pet feed industry in rebadged dosing bottles.
I'm sure Solar bait sold it as well. Stimulin amino compound or something like that.

In reply to Post #7 I've got some and it is nothing like the Hutchinson one.
It looks and smells to me as a mixture of liquid liver and monster crab flavour. It's probably a great additive but it's nothing like SSA
In reply to Post #6 It's just a flavour, apparently what liverade smelt like.
The original Shellfish SA was based on the amino acid profile of swan mussels and a crab extract was added to make it more widely accepted. With the thought that if the fish were feeding on SSA they might try and seek out swan mussels rather than the bait.

In reply to Post #2 i have.
there is a post saomewhere from Ken T saying the Shellfish one is near on identical to the RH version

In reply to Post #5 Paul at Catchit Labs does Sense Appeal (named Liverade). I think he used to work as a flavorist at Nash.

If you believe the ingredients on the label the Nash shellfish concentrate sense appeal it was based on liverade with a crab flavour. Once liverade was discontinued it changed to a simple flavor mix of liver and crab. That was the Ace cards version which has been said was a poor imitation of the original.
I have no knowledge of the original Hutchinson versions.

In reply to Post #3 For me it changed for the worse when they re-released it under the “Ace Cards” banner. Was brilliant until that point.

In reply to Post #2 the old nash shellfish sense appeal was great, but it changed.
The same flavouring thats added to white fish offcuts to flavour crabsticks

In reply to Post #1 This might be worth a look, Quality bait list sense appeals regular, shellfish and spice versions
100ml for £7.00
I've not used them myself, but I 'm sure someone on CF has.

Are the modern day versions as good as the OG Hutchy ones?
I'm sure I heard Marcus Watts on the Carp Chronicles podcast say Hutchys regular sense appeal was a product that was bought in and re-branded by Hutchy and its still the same.
He also does the flavour mixing for the Modern day Hutchinson brand and has access to the recipe books etc and that the current Secret Agent is exactly the same recipe as the OG one.
Can anyone confirm?
