In reply to Post #11 This thread is quite relevant for me too, as my Dad died a month ago, and I'm going to pick up his ashes next week.
I've been thinking for some time that I would like a nice custom built set of either 12' 3lb Ballistas, or Aviator Flex's, (even though I already have too many rods), as an early retirement present to myself.
I really like the idea of putting some of his ashes in the whipping / epoxy, above the reel seat, so he can always come fishing with me.

Cheers for all the replies I'll have a look around. Plenty of different ideas to go at. Appreciate alot thank you.

In reply to Post #9 Chris Palmer has built rods where the ashes were mixed into the writing above the reel seat iirc
He's a top rod builder based in Woking

You can definitly buy small plastic jars that hold a couple of tablespoons of ashes
From the works
They come in packs of 10
Some of my father in laws ashes are in a teddy bear he had on his boat that I have transferred to mine.
You could easily mastic them into the butt cap of a rod

My take would be to remove the butt cap, drill the internal end to a reasonable depth then thread the first few mm of the hole. Put a small amount of your fathers ashes into the hole and seal it with a grub screw (maybe loctite the grub screw). Refit the butt cap. Invisible to all and sundry, but you know it's there.

Sorry to hear of your loss its horrible to go through -
Putting something on the butt cap, i think, is more likely to get damaged/ broken off getting knocked on the ground e.t.c.
It might be easier to make a recess or attach something to the real seat collar/ handle area ?
Or maybe having a small capsule varnished on the rod in a suitable place?
good luck with it

If you're thinking glass type isotope enclosure look up sealing glass pipettes with a blow torch.
As per Smurf, it might be easier to get someone like Keith from defiant MPS to make you a clear acrylic type tube with a grub screw cap. You could drill a corresponding hole diameter in the existing butt cap and glue the tube flush with the outside of the butt cap, tube inside the blank.

In reply to Post #1 could you not take the end caps off, place your Dads ashes in the blank and reglue the end cap, the ashes would stay dry and secure in the blank itself.

In reply to Post #1 Have you tried contacting someone like Custom Angling Solutions or Defiant MPS? I am sure someone like this could help

I believe there are companies out there who can extract the carbon from a loved ones ashes and in turn "grow" this into diamond form . Ive no idea of the process or costs involved but might be worth a bit of research into.
Btw what an amazing thought 👏

In reply to Post #1 Not done it myself. But there are company's out there that set loveones ashes in rings and necklaces and the like. Might be able to get them to set something in a stainless but cap which you could then fix yourself. Just a thought.

Hello carpers long story short is my dad passed away early this year and the only thing I got that is sentimental to me is a set of aviator 2's he brought me. they were custom built by Calvin Hancock. I was just wondering if you know of anything like a end cap I can buy a little bit like the ones with the isotope gaps where you can put a isotope of you wanted. I'm looking for something similar maybe abit larger and some capsules I would be able to fill up with abit of his ashes and put into the end caps on my rods. I don't even know if this is possible I have looked but found nads. I hope one of you guys can help
