Incredible part of the world. It’s when you realise that an island might have a lake on them that is 15+ acres that you realise how different it is from fishing in the UK.
One of those 56’ houseboats with a hot tub on the roof would be the way to do this in style

glad you liked it Karl
to give an idea of the magnitude of the fish - I knew of about 10 genuine 40+ fish captures across the whole country in the last 15 years before this trip. lots of people say they have seen / caught 40's but most are nothing more than bad guessed weights of poor lies.
in my eyes, the first one is the new Canadian record but he couldn't claim it because you have to kill the fish here so it can be properly identified by our equivalent of the BRFC. very sad tbh - I called them whilst it was in the net & asked about photographic evidence / film evidence etc but they were pretty firm & it was always going back to swim another day.
just waiting for the lakes to thaw before I head up for a go for them myself

In reply to Post #1 Thanks for the present, I'll take a gander once things calm down, it sounds good.
As an aside, Negley Farson talks about life in the Northern climes in "Going fishing", that's a great read.
Ho ho ho.

Nice little film for those who love a true adventure, something a bit different...

Backstory - Last October, one of my good friends decided to explore a series of lakes north of me to target the carp in them based on a hunch. To give you an idea of size, I think the series of lakes are approx 9 times the size of Dale Hollow & are situated a few hours from Toronto. Whilst there is a lot of water here, it's very challenging fishing with public bank access & spots are few & far between - I think I have about 30 pins across all of the lakes. I've dabbled but never had any success. One of the true final frontiers of carp fishing IMO.
As far as we know nobody has ever properly targetted carp here apart from odd camping trips or fishing from the dock of a family cottage. After hours of us talking about it through the summer, Paul took the plunge & decided to hire a boat & have a proper go for them.
These fish are completely wild, never stocked, born in the lake, have never been targetted by an angler fishing for them, let alone caught - never seen a bait & have grown on from purely natural food. the carp strain are the same as old UK wildies & were released into our waters before anyone in Europe even thought about breeding mirrors.
I'm obviously a bit biased but this films captures what I personally think is one of the most amazing carp fishing trips in recent times, anywhere in the world.
