The iboat from imperial baits is made in Germany by imperial baits , yes it's more expensive but the quality is superior to that of Raptor , Fox . Nash et al which all come from Korea and China.

I think the Iboat has a 5 year guarantee too.

Agreed about the Haswing engines.I have noth the 1hp and 2hp 12v, they are excellent pieces of kit.

No worries at all mate, more than welcome. Feel free to fire over any other questions that pop up, it can be daunting with all the options available etc. and no knowing where to begin.

On the fish finder with a separate battery, biggest thing for me is peace of mind having them separate and if there are any issues with either battery I can swap to the other and get back (usually carry a spare battery in the boat anyway for this reason, this is two birds and one stone). I also like to have additional surge protection on the sonar than the outboard (given the sonar is 3x the price!). Not sure it’s strictly needed but worth it for me for the above.

I’ve just picked up 2x 100ah LifePO4 batteries on Amazon for €160 each, can’t go wrong IMO

Thanks very much for taking the time to compile such a comprehensive reply, it’s very much appreciated.
Is there a reason for running your fish finder from a separate battery or is it just personal preference? I have heard mixed experiences regarding interference etc.
Thanks again.

Need to remember that the self inflating life jackets do have an ongoing cost every 2 years iirc
co canister and a tablet IF the one you choose uses them.
Pointless having one if you don’t look after them.

Boat wise - I’ve not heard great things about the Nash or the Fox ones, I’d have a look at the Raptor boats if you can afford it (tbh they’re not that much more expensive than the nash ones but quality is unreal) they’re bomb proof and loved by the EU anglers who do this every weekend. On the cheaper end, there’s the Bark or similar as well. Ideally you want a boat with decent internal space and wide with a squarish front as it’s more stable and can store more. I’ve got a bark atm and have loved using it, will move to a raptor in the spring for the big eu work and keep the bark for the canals here in Amsterdam.

Battery - I have a Fogstar drift 105ah and love it, two back up lithium batteries from Amazon including an eco worthy (replacement as the first broke). I am looking at the battery packs from aliexpress to have in the boat as used one for a couple of weeks from a mate this summer and they were so handy. Won’t go wrong with that

Sonar Wise - I’ve just purchased an Eagle 7 with a triple shot transducer, I had a long look at the element and the next model up (£1000 ish with transducer) and just couldn’t justify the increased cost vs functionality. Whatever you do make sure you have chirp, downscan and side scan all in the same head. I’ll probably be running this from a 30ah lithium battery stored in the boat.

Engine wise I have a Minn Kota Endura but only the 33lb version and whilst I’ve not been caught out with it yet, I can see myself being caught out without enough power for the long tow back on bigger pits, I’m going to upgrade to a 55 or 65 just incase. Have a look on aliexpress, most of those that ship from EU are the same internals as the branded ones (exception of Minn Kota) and unless you’re using it every week, they should be fine

Lifejacket is a must for sure. Some good set up type videos on YouTube that are worth a watch plus loads on how to set up the sonar

The eco worthy batteries are great value for money at the moment.
If you're just doing what you say I doubt you need a 55lb thrust outboard.
You might want to consider some solar panels as well.

As for the echo sounder what ever you choose learn how to use it.
Take the time to really do this as it will catch you fish.

Thanks for the response.

I will be fishing lakes of various sizes so I cannot really specify a depth I’m afraid.
The boat will only be used for finding spots, baiting and dropping rigs etc.
I normally go out for 2 weeks at a time so was looking at buying 2 batteries.

I have a list of the auxiliary equipment etc that I need and definitely won’t forget life jackets.

Thanks again.

A few questions.
Are you going to be on a river or lake.
Length of session. Is the boat for getting around or just dropping baits
Water depth.
Don't forget a life jacket.
H blocks and or equivalents.

Hello all,

I’m buying my first compete boat setup and would appreciate any advice or recommendations. I have read through the previous posts which have been really useful, but was just wondering if anyone has any new information or reviews.

Boat wise, I’m considering the Nash 240, but would welcome any recommendations of a similar price. I’m looking at buying a Minn Kota C2 Endura (55lb) to power this.

12v 100ah Lithium battery wise, Amazon has some good deals on Eco-Worthy, Li Time and DC House? Any reviews / comparisons for these batteries, or additional recommendations for a charger would be appreciated.

Regarding a fish finder, I keep going round in circles looking at: Garmin Striker 7sv, Humminbird Helix and the Lowrance Eagle? Can I also please ask what AH battery people are using to power these?

Thanks very much in advance.
