Carp rods will be fine. Something 12 foot 3lbish TC will be fine. Two rods one a float fished dead bait fairly close in with something like a sardine and the other a wobbled bait cast at different ranges and retrieved at different depths. If nothing happens move regularly until you start catching. Good luck.

Hi All,

I've managed to gain access to a lake (small and quite snaggy) which contains a decent head of jack pike but also some that have grown on including a few 20's and one which apparently came out at 29lb before spring this year.

Do I need a dedicated pike rod or could I just use one of my carp rods?

I've not pike fished for probably 7 or 8 years now so would appreciate any tips please? I used to like just taking a small spinning rod to keep active in the winter but feel this approach may not be the best to get a chance at any of the bigger fish with so many jacks.

Thank you
