If there is any appreciable flow the main line will bow downstream and then any take from a fish will be pulling on a top bead and not directly on the lead.

No reason not too. May help tying on rotten bottom or a Korda heli safe/C clip as most rivers are quite snaggy.

Hi , might sound a daft question but is there any reason that a heli rig wouldnt be as effective in moving water? I'm fishing the Thames and there are large expances of soft silty bottoms and im thinking of using a heli rig to present my hookbait/rig above this silt , its fairly deep 12ft aveerage , whats your thoughts , thanks for any replies
