No problem mate. Let me know how you get on.
Making tackle takes me back to the 80’s.

In reply to Post #23 Thanks for this clear explanation. Like I said, very clever and handy contraption!

In reply to Post #21 Yes loop the amnesia round the left hand post and back. Pinch with finger and thumb, keep in tight.
Use wing nut on spool to also ensure tightness.
Hook with hair / 6 inches braid semi secured on right hand thread of bolt / post.
Braid comes from right to left, down into amnesia loop, then start wiping 8 turns from left to right ie back towards the hook. End of braid dropped back down through amnesia loop.
Slowly pull the almost tight, then remove rig up from left hand post.
Keep hook in place on right hand post, pull tight to check the knot, keep it tight and trim back waste ends of braid and amnesia.
Takes a bit of practice then becomes very easy and gives consistent results.
When making this the left hand post / bolt needs some tape around it so
When the rig is tied it will slide up and off easily.

If you tie the hook end using a multi rig loop then you can keep reusing the boom and braid, and change the hooks as needed.

In reply to Post #20 Very clever. And thanks for your efforts guys! Well done.
Do you keep the tension on the loop of Amnesia with your hand?

In reply to Post #15 Yes, i was wondering that too! A picture would be very handy!

In reply to Post #14 Sounds interesting don’t suppose you have a pic of it. I jigged my hooklinks a while ago just to get accuracy

Never had an Albright knot go on me.
Very easy to tie as well. I use 20 lb amnesia with atomic jelly wire u coated.
I made a device which involves the spool of amnesia being clamped down so it’s tight to the rig. Then a couple of bolts, one to hold the hook and one to aid the tying. It works very well.
Could not do this not without this gadget.

In reply to Post #11 Thanks for your reply, but I don't like the idea of split rings. Sorry!

In reply to Post #10 No, korda armabraid isn't a coated braid.

In reply to Post #10 Before coated braids etc, we used to use 40lb braid leader as the stiff section which in itself was pretty heavy.
To the end we would tie on a heavy gauge but small split ring with another split ring rung on to it.
Then on that second split ring we'd tie the hook section on, was an incredibly good rig and the weight of the two split rings with a bit of lead core wrapped around the split ring tied to the boom would hold a popup in place nicely.
Even though I haven't used the rig for years, I still carry a couple of split rings rung onto each other just in case because it was such a good 'big fish' rig back then.
Looks like Fox and a few others still sell the split rings, so if your eyes are good enough to thread a few together maybe give it a try?

In reply to Post #8 Ah gawd. I would never use with any kind of coated protected braid mine are heavy Flouro and supernatural

In reply to Post #6 Those tippet rings do look good! And 26 or 35 lb for the m and l versions is plenty strong enough

In reply to Post #5 The reason I don't like the allbright knot is that I have had that slip with a very (don't know another way to describe it) slippery braid (I believe it was the Korda armabraid). But maybe I did tie it with too little turns...

In reply to Post #6 And we think we get a raw deal with carp tackle…

Fly anglers use them, they know them as tippet rings. Claimed to be 17lb to 35lb BS depending on size. https://www.orvis.co.uk/products/tippet-rings-2k1z?srsltid=AfmBOoob35viYhk0OGz965q59K6YTStyoaMigK5yx7gsndoA77aYODzj
Whether or not they're any stronger than rig rings I don't know.

In reply to Post #1 Not really what you’re asking but…
If you batch tie with the Albright and test them I have found them to be super reliable, easy to tie (once you get into the wing of it).
The reason I answered this post is whilst I have used the Albright for the last 5 odd years I wanted a boom section that outlasted the hooks that I hand sharpen so like you investigated rings. I didn’t find anything neat and strong enough plus I like the putty on the knot. What I have been playing about with over the past couple of weeks is tying hook loops that are fairly short and with line aligners. This means I can snip off the loops and keep the boom and loop on another hook. Using fairly light braid (as it’s doubled up I’ve been quite impressed with this as a combi - I’m out Saturday so views may change next week…

Thanks for your replies. Will look into those options!

In reply to Post #1 Thinking Anglers did a heavy rig ring not sure if they still do.

In reply to Post #1 🤫🤫
I use a large korda Rog ring mate, I tested it against a small swivel and it by far was much stronger. My mate uses medium ones and hasn't had one go at all.

Hi guys,
I like fishing combi rigs. I don't like crimping and I would like to avoid the allbright knot to connect the boom and supple part. I am looking for a heavy gauge but small (micro) rig ring to connect the boom with the supple part. The current micro rig rings I see being sold, are pretty thin so I worry about them snapping.
Can you point me in the right direction, please?
Thanks!
